in us.

1. My little <5040-teknion-> children <5040-teknion-> , these
<5023-tauta-> things write <1125-grapho-> I unto you, that ye
sin <0264-hamartano-> not. And if <1437-ean-> any < 5100-tis->
man sin <0264-hamartano->, we have <2192-echo-> an advocate
<3875-parakletos-> with the Father <3962-pater->, Jesus <2424-
Iesous-> Christ <5547-Christos-> the righteous <1342- dikaios->:

2 And he is the propitiation <2434-hilasmos-> for our sins
<0266-hamartia->: and not for ours <2251-hemeteros-> only <3440-
monon->, but also <2532-kai-> for [the sins of] the whole <3650-
holos-> world <2889-kosmos->.

3. And hereby <5129-toutoi-> we do know <1097-ginosko- > that we
know <1097-ginosko-> him, if <1437-ean-> we keep < 5083-tereo->
his commandments <1785-entole->.

grapho-> unto you, young <3495-neaniskos-> men <3495- neaniskos->,
because <3754-hoti-> ye are strong <2478-ischuros->, and the

you, and ye have overcome <3528-nikao-> the wicked <4190- poneros-
> one.

15 Love <0025-agapao-> not the world <2889-kosmos->, neither
<3366-mede-> the things [that are] in the world <2889- kosmos->.
If <1437-ean-> any <5100-tis-> man love <0025- agapao-> the world
<2889-kosmos->, the love <0026-agape-> of the Father <3962-pater-
> is not in him.

16 For all <3956-pas-> that [is] in the world <2889- kosmos->,
the lust <1939-epithumia-> of the flesh <4561-sarx->, and the
lust <1939-epithumia-> of the eyes <3788-ophthalmos->, and the
pride <0212-alazoneia-> of life <0979-bios->, is not of the
Father <3962-pater->, but is of the world <2889-kosmos- >.

17 And the world <2889-kosmos-> passeth <3855-parago- > away,
and the lust <1939-epithumia-> thereof <0846-autos->: but he
that doeth <4160-poieo-> the will <2307-thelema-> of God <2316-
theos-> abideth <3306-meno-> for ever <0165-aion->.

18. Little <3813-paidion-> children <3813-paidion->, it is the
last <2078-eschatos-> time <5610-hora->: and as ye have heard
<0191-akouo-> that antichrist <0500-antichristos-> shall come
<2064-erchomai->, even <2532-kai-> now <3568-nun- > are there
many <4183-polus-> antichrists <0500-antichristos->; whereby
<3606-hothen-> we know <1097-ginosko-> that it is the last <2078-
eschatos-> time <5610-hora->.

19 They went <1831-exerchomai-> out from us, but they were not
of us; for if <1487-ei-> they had been <2258-en-> of us, they
would [no doubt] have continued <3306-meno-> with us: but [they
went out], that they might be made <5319-phaneroo-> manifest
<5319-phaneroo-> that they were not all <3956-pas-> of us.

20. But ye have <2192-echo-> an unction <5545-chrisma- > from
the Holy <0040-hagios-> One, and ye know <1492-eido-> all <3956-
pas-> things.

21 I have not written <1125-grapho-> unto you because < 3754-
hoti-> ye know <1492-eido-> not the truth <0225- aletheia->, but
because <3754-hoti-> ye know <1492-eido-> it, and that no <3756-
ou-> lie <5579-pseudos-> is of the truth <0225- aletheia->.

22 Who <5101-tis-> is a liar <5583-pseustes-> but he that
denieth <0720-arneomai-> that Jesus <2424-Iesous-> is the Christ
<5547-Christos->? He is antichrist <0500-antichristos- >, that
denieth <0720-arneomai-> the Father <3962-pater-> and the Son
<5207-huios->.

23 Whosoever <3588-ho-> denieth <0720-arneomai-> the Son <5207-
huios->, the same <3761-oude-> hath <2192-echo-> not the Father
<3962-pater->: [(but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath <2192-
echo-> the Father also <2532-kai->].

24 Let that therefore <3767-oun-> abide <3306-meno-> in you,
which <3739-hos-> ye have heard <0191-akouo-> from the beginning
<0746-arche->. If <1437-ean-> that which <3739-hos- > ye have
heard <0191-akouo-> from the beginning <0746-arche-> shall
remain <3306-meno-> in you, ye also <2532-kai-> shall continue
<3306-meno-> in the Son <5207-huios->, and in the Father <3962-
pater->.

25 And this <3778-houtos-> is the promise <1860- epaggelia->
that he hath promised <1861-epaggello-> us, [even] eternal <0166-
aionios-> life <2222-zoe->.

26 These <5023-tauta-> [things] have I written <1125- grapho->
unto you concerning <4012-peri-> them that seduce <4105- planao->
you.

27 But the anointing <5545-chrisma-> which <3739-hos- > ye have
received <2983-lambano-> of him abideth <3306-meno-> in you, and
ye need <5532-chreia-> not that any <5100-tis-> man teach <1321-
didasko-> you: but as the same <0846-autos-> anointing <5545-
chrisma-> teacheth <1321-didasko-> you of all <3956- pas-> things,
and is truth <0227-alethes->, and is no <3756-ou-> lie <5579-
pseudos->, and even <2531-kathos-> as it hath taught < 1321-
didasko-> you, ye shall abide <3306-meno-> in him.

28. And now <3568-nun->, little <5040-teknion-> children <5040-
teknion->, abide <3306-meno-> in him; that, when < 3752-hotan->
he shall appear <5319-phaneroo->, we may have <2192-echo- >
confidence <3954-parrhesia->, and not be ashamed <0153-
aischunomai-> before <0575-apo-> him at <1722-en-> his coming
<3952-parousia->.

29 If <1437-ean-> ye know <1492-eido-> that he is righteous
<1342-dikaios->, ye know <1097-ginosko-> that every <3956-pas->
one that doeth <4160-poieo-> righteousness <1343- dikaiosune-> is
born <1080-gennao-> of him.

1. Behold <1492-eido->, what <4217-potapos-> manner <4217-
potapos-> of love <0026-agape-> the Father <3962- pater-> hath
bestowed <1325-didomi-> upon us, that we should be called <2564-
kaleo-> the sons <5043-teknon-> of God <2316-theos- >: therefore
<5124-touto-> the world <2889-kosmos-> knoweth < 1097-ginosko->
us not, because <3754-hoti-> it knew <1097-ginosko-> him not.

2 Beloved <0027-agapetos->, now <3568-nun-> are we the sons
<5043-teknon-> of God <2316-theos->, and it doth not yet <3768-
oupo-> appear <5319-phaneroo-> what <5101-tis-> we shall be: but
we know <1492-eido-> that, when <1437-ean-> he shall appear
<5319-phaneroo->, we shall be like <3664-homoios-> him; for we
shall see <3700-optanomai-> him as he is.

3 And every <3956-pas-> man that hath <2192-echo-> this <5026-
taute-> hope <1680-elpis-> in him purifieth <0048- hagnizo->
himself <1438-heautou->, even <2531-kathos-> as he is pure <0053-
hagnos->.

4. Whosoever <3588-ho-> committeth <4160-poieo-> sin <0266-
hamartia-> transgresseth <4160-poieo-> also <2532-kai- > the law
<0458-anomia->: for sin <0266-hamartia-> is the transgression
<0458-anomia-> of the law <0458-anomia->.

5 And ye know <1492-eido-> that he was manifested <5319-
phaneroo-> to take <0142-airo-> away our sins <0266- hamartia->;
and in him is no <3756-ou-> sin <0266-hamartia->.

6 Whosoever <3588-ho-> abideth <3306-meno-> in him sinneth
<0264-hamartano-> not: whosoever <3588-ho-> sinneth <0264-
hamartano-> hath not seen <3708-horao-> him, neither < 3761-oude-
> known <1097-ginosko-> him.

7 Little <5040-teknion-> children <5040-teknion->, let no <3367-
medeis-> man <3367-medeis-> deceive <4105-planao-> you: he that
doeth <4160-poieo-> righteousness <1343-dikaiosune-> is
righteous <1342-dikaios->, even <2531-kathos-> as he is
righteous <1342-dikaios->.

8 He that committeth <4160-poieo-> sin <0266-hamartia- > is of
the devil <1228-diabolos->; for the devil <1228-diabolos- >
sinneth <0264-hamartano-> from the beginning <0746-arche- >. For
this <5124-touto-> purpose the Son <5207-huios-> of God <2316-
theos-> was manifested <5319-phaneroo->, that he might destroy
<3089-luo-> the works <2041-ergon-> of the devil < 1228-diabolos-
>.

9 Whosoever <3588-ho-> is born <1080-gennao-> of God <2316-
theos-> doth not commit <4160-poieo-> sin <0266- hamartia->; for
his seed <4690-sperma-> remaineth <3306-meno-> in him: and he
cannot <1410-dunamai-> sin <0264-hamartano->, because <3754-hoti-
> he is born <1080-gennao-> of God <2316-theos->.

10 In this <5129-toutoi-> the children <5043-teknon-> of God
<2316-theos-> are manifest <5318-phaneros->, and the children
<5043-teknon-> of the devil <1228-diabolos->: whosoever <3588-ho-
> doeth <4160-poieo-> not righteousness <1343- dikaiosune-> is
not of God <2316-theos->, neither he that loveth <0025- agapao->
not his brother <0080-adephos->.

11. For this <2778-kensos-> is the message <0031- aggelia-> that
ye heard <0191-akouo-> from the beginning <0746-arche- >, that we
should love <0025-agapao-> one <0240-allelon-> another <0240-
allelon->.

12 Not as Cain <2535-Kain->, [who] was of that wicked < 4190-
poneros-> one, and slew <4969-sphazo-> his brother < 0080-adephos-
>. And wherefore <5101-tis-> slew <4969-sphazo-> he him? Because
<3754-hoti-> his own works <2041-ergon-> were evil <4190-poneros-
>, and his brother's <0080-adephos-> righteous <1342- dikaios->.

13 Marvel <2296-thaumazo-> not, my brethren <0080- adephos->, if
<1487-ei-> the world <2889-kosmos-> hate <3404- miseo-> you.

14. We know <1492-eido-> that we have passed <3327- metabaino->
from death <2288-thanatos-> unto life <2222-zoe->, because <3754-
hoti-> we love <0025-agapao-> the brethren <0080- adephos->. He
that loveth <0025-agapao-> not [his] brother <0080- adephos->
abideth <3306-meno-> in death <2288-thanatos->.

15 Whosoever <3588-ho-> hateth <3404-miseo-> his brother <0080-
adephos-> is a murderer <0443-anthropoktonos->: and ye know
<1492-eido-> that no <3756-ou-> murderer <0443- anthropoktonos->
hath <2192-echo-> eternal <0166-aionios-> life < 2222-zoe->
abiding <3306-meno-> in him.

16 Hereby <5129-toutoi-> perceive <1097-ginosko-> we the love
<0026-agape-> [of God], because <3754-hoti-> he laid <5087-
tithemi-> down his life <5590-psuche-> for us: and we ought
<3784-opheilo-> to lay <5087-tithemi-> down <2597- katabaino->
[our] lives <5590-psuche-> for the brethren <0080- adephos->.

17 But whoso <0302-an-> hath <2192-echo-> this < 3588-ho->
world's <2889-kosmos-> good <0979-bios->, and seeth <2334-
theoreo-> his brother <0080-adephos-> have <2192-echo- > need
<5532-chreia->, and shutteth <2808-kleio-> up his bowels <4698-
splagchnon-> [of compassion] from him, how <4459-pos-> dwelleth
<3306-meno-> the love <0026-agape-> of God <2316- theos-> in him?

18 My little <5040-teknion-> children <5040-teknion-> , let us
not love <0025-agapao-> in word <3056-logos->, neither <3366-
mede-> in tongue <1100-glossa->; but in deed <2041- ergon-> and
in truth <0225-aletheia->.

19 And hereby <5129-toutoi-> we know <1097-ginosko-> that we
are of the truth <0225-aletheia->, and shall assure < 3982-peitho-
> our hearts <2588-kardia-> before <1715-emprosthen- > him.

20. For if <1437-ean-> our heart <2588-kardia-> condemn <2607-
kataginosko-> us, God <2316-theos-> is greater <3187- meizon->
than our heart <2588-kardia->, and knoweth <1097-ginosko- > all
<3956-pas-> things.

21 Beloved <0027-agapetos->, if <1437-ean-> our heart <2588-
kardia-> condemn <2607-kataginosko-> us not, [then] have <2192-
echo-> we confidence <3954-parrhesia-> toward <4314- pros-> God
<2316-theos->.

22 And whatsoever <1437-ean-> we ask <0154-aiteo->, we receive
<2983-lambano-> of him, because <3754-hoti-> we keep <5083-tereo-
> his commandments <1785-entole->, and do <4160-poieo- > those
<3588-ho-> things that are pleasing <0701-arestos-> in his sight

That we should believe <4100-pisteuo-> on the name <3686- onoma->

24 And he that keepeth <5083-tereo-> his commandments < 1785-
entole-> dwelleth <3306-meno-> in him, and he in him. And hereby

meno-> in us, by the Spirit <4151-pneuma-> which < 3739-hos-> he

1. Beloved <0027-agapetos->, believe <4100-pisteuo-> not every
<3956-pas-> spirit <4151-pneuma->, but try <1381- dokimazo-> the
spirits <4151-pneuma-> whether <1487-ei-> they are of God <2316-
theos->: because <3754-hoti-> many <4183-polus-> false <5578-
pseudoprophetes-> prophets <5578-pseudoprophetes-> are gone

2 Hereby <5129-toutoi-> know <1097-ginosko-> ye the Spirit

5 They are of the world <2889-kosmos->: therefore <5124- touto->

12 No <3762-oudeis-> man <3762-oudeis-> hath seen <2300-

> time <4455-popote->. If <1437-ean-> we love < 0026-agape-> one

15 Whosoever <0302-an-> shall confess <3670-homologeo- > that
Jesus <2424-Iesous-> is the Son <5207-huios-> of God <2316-theos-
>, God <2316-theos-> dwelleth <3306-meno-> in him, and he in God
<2316-theos->.

16 And we have known <1097-ginosko-> and believed <4100- pisteuo-
> the love <0026-agape-> that God <2316-theos-> hath <2192-echo-
> to us. God <2316-theos-> is love <0026-agape->; and he that
dwelleth <3306-meno-> in love <0026-agape-> dwelleth <3306-meno-
> in God <2316-theos->, and God <2316-theos-> in him.

17. Herein <5129-toutoi-> is our love <0026-agape-> made <5048-
teleioo-> perfect <5048-teleioo->, that we may have < 2192-echo->
boldness <3954-parrhesia-> in the day <2250-hemera-> of judgment

18 There is no <3756-ou-> fear <5401-phobos-> in love <0026-
agape->; but perfect <5046-teleios-> love <0026-agape- > casteth

1. Whosoever <3588-ho-> believeth <4100-pisteuo-> that Jesus

entole->: and his commandments <1785-entole-> are not grievous

5 Who <5101-tis-> is he that overcometh <3528-nikao-> the world
<2889-kosmos->, but he that believeth <4100-pisteuo-> that Jesus

6. This <3778-houtos-> is he that came <2064-erchomai- > by
water <5204-hudor-> and blood <0129-haima->, [even] Jesus <2424-
Iesous-> Christ <5547-Christos->; not by water <5204- hudor->
only <3440-monon->, but by water <5204-hudor-> and blood <0129-
haima->. And it is the Spirit <4151-pneuma-> that beareth <3140-
martureo-> witness <3140-martureo->, because <3754- hoti-> the
Spirit <4151-pneuma-> is truth <0225-aletheia->.

7 For there are three <5140-treis-> that bear <3140- martureo->
record <3140-martureo-> in heaven <3772-ouranos->, the Father
<3962-pater->, the Word <3056-logos->, and the Holy <0040-hagios-
> Ghost <4151-pneuma->: and these <3778-houtos-> three <5140-
treis-> are one <1520-heis->.

8 And there are three <5140-treis-> that bear <3140- martureo->
witness <3140-martureo-> in earth <1093-ge->, the Spirit <4151-
pneuma->, and the water <5204-hudor->, and the blood < 0129-haima-
>: and these <3778-houtos-> three <5140-treis-> agree <1526-eisi-
> in one <1520-heis->.

9 If <1487-ei-> we receive <2983-lambano-> the witness <3141-
marturia-> of men <0444-anthropos->, the witness < 3141-marturia-
> of God <2316-theos-> is greater <3187-meizon->: for this <3778-
houtos-> is the witness <3141-marturia-> of God <2316- theos->
which <3739-hos-> he hath testified <3140-martureo-> of his Son

10. He that believeth <4100-pisteuo-> on <1519-eis-> the Son
<5207-huios-> of God <2316-theos-> hath <2192-echo- > the witness
<3141-marturia-> in himself <1438-heautou->: he that believeth
<4100-pisteuo-> not God <2316-theos-> hath made < 4160-poieo->
him a liar <5583-pseustes->; because <3754-hoti-> he believeth
<4100-pisteuo-> not the record <3141-marturia-> that God <2316-
theos-> gave <3140-martureo-> of his Son <5207-huios- >.

11 And this <3778-houtos-> is the record <3141-marturia- >, that
God <2316-theos-> hath given <1325-didomi-> to us eternal <0166-
aionios-> life <2222-zoe->, and this <3778-houtos-> life <2222-
zoe-> is in his Son <5207-huios->.

12 He that hath <2192-echo-> the Son <5207-huios-> hath <2192-
echo-> life <2222-zoe->; [and] he that hath <2192- echo-> not the
Son <5207-huios-> of God <2316-theos-> hath <2192- echo-> not
life <2222-zoe->.

13 These <5023-tauta-> things have I written <1125- grapho->
unto you that believe <4100-pisteuo-> on <1519-eis-> the name
<3686-onoma-> of the Son <5207-huios-> of God < 2316-theos->;
that ye may know <1492-eido-> that ye have <2192-echo- > eternal
<0166-aionios-> life <2222-zoe->, and that ye may believe <4100-

14. And this <3778-houtos-> is the confidence <3954- parrhesia->
that we have <2192-echo-> in him, that, if <1437-ean-> we ask
<0154-aiteo-> any <5100-tis-> thing according < 2596-kata-> to
his will <2307-thelema->, he heareth <0191-akouo-> us:

15 And if <1437-ean-> we know <1492-eido-> that he hear <0191-
akouo-> us, whatsoever <0302-an-> we ask <0154-aiteo- >, we know
<1492-eido-> that we have <2192-echo-> the petitions <0155-
aitema-> that we desired <0154-aiteo-> of him.

16 If <1437-ean-> any <5100-tis-> man see <1492- eido-> his
brother <0080-adephos-> sin <0264-hamartano-> a sin <0266-
hamartia-> [which is] not unto death <2288-thanatos->, he shall
ask <0154-aiteo->, and he shall give <1325-didomi-> him life
<2222-zoe-> for them that sin <0264-hamartano-> not unto death
<2288-thanatos->. There is a sin <0266-hamartia-> unto death
<2288-thanatos->: I do not say <3004-lego-> that he shall pray
<2065-erotao-> for it.

17 All <3956-pas-> unrighteousness <0093-adikia-> is sin <0266-
hamartia->: and there is a sin <0266-hamartia-> not unto death
<2288-thanatos->.

18. We know <1492-eido-> that whosoever <3588-ho-> is born
<1080-gennao-> of God <2316-theos-> sinneth <0264- hamartano->
not; but he that is begotten <1080-gennao-> of God <2316- theos->
keepeth <5083-tereo-> himself <1438-heautou->, and that wicked
<4190-poneros-> one toucheth <0680-haptomai-> him not.

19 [And] we know <1492-eido-> that we are of God <2316- theos->,
and the whole <3650-holos-> world <2889-kosmos-> lieth <2749-
keimai-> in wickedness <4190-poneros->.

20 And we know <1492-eido-> that the Son <5207-huios- > of God
<2316-theos-> is come <2240-heko->, and hath given <1325-didomi-
> us an understanding <1271-dianoia->, that we may know <1097-
ginosko-> him that is true <0228-alethinos->, and we are in him
that is true <0228-alethinos->, [even] in his Son <5207- huios->
Jesus <2424-Iesous-> Christ <5547-Christos->. This <3778-houtos-
> is the true <0228-alethinos-> God <2316-theos->, and eternal

21 Little <5040-teknion-> children <5040-teknion->, keep <5442-
phulasso-> yourselves <1438-heautou-> from idols < 1497-eidolon->.
