CHAPTER 9 :1 And the fifth <G 3991> angel <G 0032> sounded <G4537>, and I saw <G 1492> a star <G 0792> fall < G 4098> from heaven <G 3772> unto the earth <G 1093>: and to him was given <G 1325> the key <G 2807> of the bottomless <G 0012> pit <G 5421>. :2 And he opened <G 0455> the bottomless <G 0012> pit <G 5421>; and there arose <G 0305> a smoke <G 2586> out of the pit <G 5421>, as the smoke <G 2586> of a great <G 3173> furnace <G 2575>; and the sun <G 2246> and the air <G 0109> were darkened <G 4654> by reason <G 1537> of the smoke <G 2586> of the pit <G 5421>. :3 And there came <G 1831> out of the smoke <G 2586> locusts <G 0200> upon the earth <G 1093>: and unto them was given <G 1325> power <G 1849>, as the scorpions <G 4651> of the earth <G 1093> have <G 2192> power <G 1849>. :4 And it was commanded <G 4483> them that they should not hurt <G 0091> the grass <G 5528> of the earth <G 1093>, neither any <G 3956> green <G 5515> thing, neither any <G 3956> tree <G 1186>; but only <G 3441> those <G 3588> men <G 0444> which <G 3748> have <G 2192> not the seal <G 4973> of God <G 2316> in their foreheads <G 3359>. :5 And to them it was given <G 1325> that they should not kill <G 0615> them, but that they should be tormented <G 0928> five <G 4002> months <G 3376>: and their torment <G 0929> [was] as the torment <G 0929> of a scorpion <G 4651>, when < G 3752> he striketh <G 3817> a man <G 0444>. :6 And in those <G 1565> days <G 2250> shall men < G 0444> seek <G 2212> death <G 2288>, and shall not find <G 2147> it; and shall desire <G 1937> to die <G 0599>, and death < G 2288> shall flee <G 5343> from them. :7 And the shapes <G 3667> of the locusts <G 0200> [were] like <G 3664> unto horses <G 2462> prepared <G 2090> unto battle <G 4171>; and on <G 1909> their heads <G 2776> [were] as it were crowns <G 4735> like <G 3664> gold <G 5557>, and their faces <G 4383> [were] as the faces <G 4383> of men <G 0444>. :8 And they had <G 2192> hair <G 2359> as the hair <G 2359> of women <G 1135>, and their teeth <G 3599> were as [the teeth] of lions <G 3023>. :9 And they had <G 2192> breastplates <G 2382>, as it were breastplates <G 2382> of iron <G 4603>; and the sound <G 5456> of their wings <G 4420> [was] as the sound <G 5456> of chariots <G 0716> of many <G 4183> horses <G 2462> running <G 5143> to battle <G 4171>. :10 And they had <G 2192> tails <G 3769> like <G 3664> unto scorpions <G 4651>, and there were stings <G 2759> in their tails <G 3769>: and their power <G 1849> [was] to hurt <G 0091> men <G 0444> five <G 4002> months <G 3376>. :11 And they had <G 2192> a king <G 0935> over <G 1909> them, [which is] the angel <G 0032> of the bottomless <G 0012> pit, whose <G 0846> name <G 3686> in the Hebrew <G 1447> tongue <G 1447> [is] Abaddon <G 0003>, but in the Greek <G 1673> tongue hath <G 2192> [his] name <G 3686> Apollyon <G 0623>. :12 One <G 3391> woe <G 3759> is past <G 0565>; [and], behold <G 2400>, there come <G 2064> two <G 1417> woes <G 3759> more <G 2089> hereafter <G 5023>. :13. And the sixth <G 1623> angel <G 0032> sounded <G 4537>, and I heard <G 0191> a voice <G 5456> from the four <G 5064> horns <G 2768> of the golden <G 5552> altar <G 2379> which <G 3588> is before <G 1799> God <G 2316>, :14 Saying <G 3004> to the sixth <G 1623> angel which <G 3739> had <G 2192> the trumpet <G 4536>, Loose <G 3089> the four <G 5064> angels <G 0032> which <G 3588> are bound < G 1210> in the great <G 3173> river <G 4215> Euphrates <G 2166> . :15 And the four <G 5064> angels <G 0032> were loosed <G 3089>, which <G 3588> were prepared <G 2090> for an hour < G 5610>, and a day <G 2250>, and a month <G 3376>, and a year < G 1763>, for to slay <G 0615> the third <G 5154> part of men <G 0444>. :16 And the number <G 0706> of the army <G 4753> of the horsemen <G 2461> [were] two <G 1417> hundred <G 3461> thousand <G 3461> thousand <G 3461>: and I heard <G 0191> the number <G 0706> of them. :17 And thus <G 3779> I saw <G 1492> the horses <G 2462> in the vision <G 3706>, and them that sat <G 2521> on <G 1909> them, having <G 2192> breastplates <G 2382> of fire <G 4447>, and of jacinth <G 5191>, and brimstone <G 2306>: and the heads <G 2776> of the horses <G 2462> [were] as the heads <G 2776> of lions <G 3023>; and out of their mouths <G 4750> issued <G 1607> fire <G 4442> and smoke <G 2586> and brimstone <G 2303>. :18 By these <G 5103> three <G 5140> was the third <G 5154> part of men <G 0444> killed <G 0615>, by the fire <G 4442>, and by the smoke <G 2586>, and by the brimstone <G 2303>, which <G 3588> issued <G 1607> out of their mouths <G 4750>. :19 For their power <G 1849> is in their mouth <G 4750>, and in their tails <G 3769>: for their tails <G 3769> [were] like <G 3664> unto serpents <G 3789>, and had <G 2192> heads <G 2776>, and with them they do hurt <G 0091>. :20 And the rest <G 3062> of the men <G 0444> which <G 3739> were not killed <G 0615> by these <G 5025> plagues <G 4127> yet repented <G 3340> not of the works <G 2041> of their hands <G 5495>, that they should not worship <G 4352> devils < G 1140>, and idols <G 1497> of gold <G 5552>, and silver <G 0693>, and brass <G 5470>, and stone <G 3035>, and of wood <G 3585>: which <G 3739> neither <G 3777> can <G 1410> see < G 0991>, nor <G 3777> hear <G 0191>, nor <G 3777> walk <G 4043>: :21 Neither <G 3756> repented <G 3340> they of their murders <G 5408>, nor <G 3777> of their sorceries <G 5331>, nor <G 3777> of their fornication <G 4202>, nor <G 3777> of their thefts <G 2809>.
