brethren <0251 >ach >, came <0935 bow> >, he and [certain] men

5. And said <0559 >amar >, I beseech <0577 > anna> > thee, O

7 We have dealt very corruptly <2254 chabal > against thee, and

nor the statutes <2706 choq >, nor the judgments <4941 mishpat >,

<5650 <ebed > Moses <4872 Mosheh >.



8 Remember <2142 zakar >, I beseech <4994 na> > thee, the word
<1697 dabar > that thou commandedst <6680 tsavah > thy servant
<5650 <ebed > Moses <4872 Mosheh >, saying < 0559 >amar >, [If]
ye transgress <4603 ma<al >, I will scatter <6327 puwts > you
abroad <6327 puwts > among the nations <5971 <am >:



9 But [if] ye turn <7725 shuwb > unto me, and keep < 8104 shamar
> my commandments <4687 mitsvah >, and do <6213 < asah > them;
though <0518 >im > there were of you cast <5080 nadach > out
unto the uttermost <7097 qatseh > part of the heaven < 8064
shamayim >, [yet] will I gather <6908 qabats > them from thence
<8033 sham >, and will bring <0935 bow> > them unto the place
<4725 maqowm > that I have chosen <0970 bachuwr > to set <7931
shakan > my name <8034 shem > there <8033 sham >.



10 Now these <1992 hem > [are] thy servants <5650 < ebed > and
thy people <5971 <am >, whom <0834 >aher > thou hast redeemed
<6299 padah > by thy great <1419 gadowl > power < 3581 koach >,
and by thy strong <2389 chazaq > hand <3027 yad >.



11 O Lord <0136 >Adonay >, I beseech <0577 > anna> > thee, let

Nehemiah 2



1. And it came <1961 hayah > to pass in the month <2320 chodesh

<8141 shaneh > of Artaxerxes <0783 >Artachshashta> > the king
<4428 melek >, [that] wine <3196 yayin > [was] before <6440
paniym > him: and I took <5375 nasa> > up the wine <3196 yayin >,
and gave <5414 nathan > [it] unto the king <4428 melek >. Now I
had not been <1961 hayah > [beforetime] sad <7451 ra< > in his
presence <6440 paniym >.



2 Wherefore the king <4428 melek > said <0559 >amar > unto me,
Why <4069 madduwa< > [is] thy countenance <6440 paniym > sad
<7451 ra< >, seeing thou [art] not sick <2470 chalah >? this
<2088 zeh > [is] nothing <0369 >ayin > [else] but sorrow <7455

3 And said <0559 >amar > unto the king <4428 melek >, Let the
king <4428 melek > live <2421 chayah > for ever < 5769 <owlam >:
why <4069 madduwa< > should not my countenance <6440 paniym > be
sad <7489 ra<a< >, when <0834 >aher > the city <5892 <iyr >, the
place <1004 bayith > of my fathers <1>' sepulchres <6913 qeber >,
[lieth] waste <2720 chareb >, and the gates <8179 sha<ar >

4 Then the king <4428 melek > said <0559 >amar > unto me, For
what <4100 mah > dost thou make request <1245 baqash > ? So I
prayed <6419 palal > to the God <0430 >elohiym > of heaven <8064
shamayim >.



5 And I said <0559 >amar > unto the king <4428 melek >, If
<0518 >im > it please <2895 towb > the king < 4428 melek >, and
if <0518 >im > thy servant <5650 <ebed > have found favour <3190
yatab > in thy sight <6440 paniym >, that thou wouldest send
<7971 shalach > me unto Judah <3063 Y@huwdah >, unto the city
<5892 <iyr > of my fathers <1>' sepulchres < 6913 qeber >, that I
may build <1129 banah > it.



6 And the king <4428 melek > said <0559 >amar > unto me, (the
queen <7694 shegal > also sitting <3427 yashab > by him,) For
how <5704 <ad > long <5704 <ad > shall thy journey <4109 mahalak
> be? and when <4970 mathay > wilt thou return <7725 shuwb >? So
it pleased <3190 yatab > the king <4428 melek > to send <7971
shalach > me; and I set <5414 nathan > him a time < 2165 z@man >.



7 Moreover I said <0559 >amar > unto the king <4428 melek >, If
it please <2895 towb > the king <4428 melek >, let letters <0107
>iggereth > be given <5414 nathan > me to the governors <6346
pechah > beyond <5676 <eber > the river <5104 nahar >, that they
may convey <5674 <abar > me over <5674 <abar > till <5704 <ad >
I come <0935 bow> > into <0413 >el > Judah < 3063 Y@huwdah >;



8 And a letter <0107 >iggereth > unto Asaph <0623 >Acaph > the
keeper <8104 shamar > of the king's <4428 melek > forest <6508
pardec >, that he may give <5414 nathan > me timber < 6086 <ets >
to make beams <7136 qarah > for the gates <8179 sha< ar > of the
palace <1002 biyrah > which <0834 >aher > [appertained] to the
house <1004 bayith >, and for the wall <2346 chowmah > of the
city <5892 <iyr >, and for the house <1004 bayith > that I shall
enter <0935 bow> > into <5921 <al >. And the king <4428 melek >
granted <5414 nathan > me, according to the good <2896 towb >
hand <3027 yad > of my God <0430 >elohiym > upon me.



9. Then I came <0935 bow> > to the governors <6346 pechah >
beyond <5676 <eber > the river <5104 nahar >, and gave <5414
nathan > them the king's <4428 melek > letters <0107 >iggereth >.
Now the king <4428 melek > had sent <7971 shalach > captains
<8269 sar > of the army <2428 chayil > and horsemen <6571 parash
> with me.



10 When Sanballat <5571 Canballat > the Horonite <2772 Choroniy
>, and Tobiah <2900 Towbiyah > the servant <5650 < ebed >, the
Ammonite <5984 <Ammowniy >, heard <8085 shama< > [of it], it
grieved <7489 ra<a< > them exceedingly <1419 gadowl > that there
was come <0935 bow> > a man <0120 >adam > to seek <1245 baqash >
the welfare <2896 towb > of the children <1121 ben > of Israel
<3478 Yisra>el >.



11 So I came <0935 bow> > to Jerusalem <3389 Y@ruwshalaim >,
and was there <8033 sham > three <7969 shalowsh > days <3117
yowm >.



12 And I arose <6965 quwm > in the night <3915 layil >, I and
some <4592 m@<at > few <4592 m@<at > men < 0582 >enowsh > with me;
neither <3808 lo> > told <5046 nagad > I [any] man <0120 >adam
> what <4100 mah > my God <0430 >elohiym > had put <5414 nathan
> in my heart <3820 leb > to do <6213 <asah > at Jerusalem <3389
Y@ruwshalaim >: neither <0369 >ayin > [was there any] beast
<0929 b@hemah > with me, save the beast <0929 b@hemah > that I
rode <7392 rakab > upon.



13 And I went <3318 yatsa> > out by night <3915 layil > by the
gate <8179 sha<ar > of the valley <1516 gay> >, even before the
dragon <8577 tanniyn > well <2869 tab >, and to the dung <0830
>ashpoth > port <8179 sha<ar >, and viewed < 7663 sabar > the
walls <2346 chowmah > of Jerusalem <3389 Y@ruwshalaim >, which
<0834 >aher > were broken <6555 parats > down, and the gates
<8179 sha<ar > thereof were consumed <0398 >akal > with fire
<0784 >esh >.



14 Then I went <5674 <abar > on <0413 >el > to the gate <8179
sha<ar > of the fountain <5869 <ayin >, and to the king's <4428
melek > pool <1295 b@rekah >: but [there was] no < 0369 >ayin >
place <4725 maqowm > for the beast <0929 b@hemah > [that was]
under <8478 tachath > me to pass <5674 <abar >.



15 Then went <5927 <alah > I up in the night <3915 layil > by
the brook <5158 nachal >, and viewed <7663 sabar > the wall
<2346 chowmah >, and turned <7725 shuwb > back < 7725 shuwb >,
and entered <0935 bow> > by the gate <8179 sha<ar > of the
valley <1516 gay> >, and [so] returned <7725 shuwb >.



16 And the rulers <5461 cagan > knew <3045 yada< > not whither
<0575 >an > I went <1980 halak >, or what <4100 mah > I did
<6213 <asah >; neither <3808 lo> > had I as yet told <5046 nagad
> [it] to the Jews <3064 Y@huwdiy >, nor to the priests <3548
kohen >, nor to the nobles <2715 chor >, nor to the rulers <5461
cagan >, nor to the rest <3499 yether > that did < 6213 <asah >
the work <4399 m@la>kah >.



17 Then said <0559 >amar > I unto them, Ye see <7200 ra>ah >
the distress <7451 ra< > that we [are] in, how <0834 >aher >
Jerusalem <3389 Y@ruwshalaim > [lieth] waste <2720 chareb >, and
the gates <8179 sha<ar > thereof are burned <3341 yatsath > with
fire <0784 >esh >: come <3212 yalak >, and let us build <1129
banah > up the wall <2346 chowmah > of Jerusalem < 3389
Y@ruwshalaim >, that we be no <3808 lo> > more < 5720 <Adiyn > a
reproach <2781 cherpah >.



18 Then I told <5046 nagad > them of the hand <3027 yad > of my
God <0430 >elohiym > which <0834 >aher > was good <2896 towb >
upon me; as also <0637 >aph > the king's <4428 melek > words
<1697 dabar > that he had spoken <0559 >amar > unto me. And they
said <0559 >amar >, Let us rise <6965 quwm > up and build <1129
banah >. So they strengthened <2388 chazaq > their hands <3027
yad > for [this] good <2896 towb > [work].



19 But when Sanballat <5571 Canballat > the Horonite < 2772
Choroniy >, and Tobiah <2900 Towbiyah > the servant < 5650 <ebed
>, the Ammonite <5984 <Ammowniy >, and Geshem < 1654 Geshem > the
Arabian <6163 <Arabiy >, heard <8085 shama< > [it], they laughed
<3932 la<ag > us to scorn, and despised <0959 bazah > us, and
said <0559 >amar >, What <4100 mah > [is] this < 2088 zeh > thing
<1697 dabar > that ye do <6213 <asah >? will ye rebel <4775

20 Then answered <1697 dabar > I them, and said <0559 >amar >
unto them, The God <0430 >elohiym > of heaven <8064 shamayim >,
he will prosper <6743 tsalach > us; therefore we his servants
<5650 <ebed > will arise <6965 quwm > and build <1129 banah >:
but ye have no <0369 >ayin > portion <2506 cheleq > , nor right
<6666 ts@daqah >, nor memorial <2146 zikrown >, in Jerusalem

banah > it, and covered <2926 talal > it, and set < 5975 <amad >

thereof, and the bars <1280 b@riyach > thereof, and the wall
