Joshua 1

1. Now after <0310> the death <04194> of Moses < 04872> the servant <05650> of the LORD <03068> it came < 01961> to pass, that the LORD <03068> spake <0559> unto Joshua <03091> the son <01121> of Nun <05126>, Moses < 04872>' minister <08334>, saying <0559>,

2 Moses <04872> my servant <05650> is dead < 04191>; now <06258> therefore arise <06965>, go < 05674> over <05674> this Jordan <03383>, thou, and all < 03605> this <02088> people <05971>, unto the land < 0776> which <0834> I do give <05414> to them, [even] to the children <01121> of Israel <03478>.

3 Every <03605> place <04725> that the sole < 03709> of your foot <07272> shall tread <01869> upon, that have I given <05414> unto you, as I said <01696> unto Moses <04872>.

4 From the wilderness <04057> and this <02088> Lebanon <03844> even unto the great <01419> river <05104> , the river <05104> Euphrates <06578>, all <03605> the land <0776> of the Hittites <02850>, and unto the great < 01419> sea <03220> toward the going <03996> down < 03996> of the sun <08121>, shall be your coast <01366>.

5 There shall not any man <0376> be able <03320> to stand <03320> before <06440> thee all <03605> the days <03117> of thy life <02416>: as I was with Moses <04872>, [so] I will be with thee: I will not fail <07503> thee, nor < 03808> forsake <05800> thee.

6 Be strong <02388> and of a good courage <0553>: for unto this <02088> people <05971> shalt thou divide for an inheritance <05157> the land <0776>, which <0834> I sware <07650> unto their fathers <01> to give <05414> them.

7 Only <07535> be thou strong <02388> and very < 03966> courageous <0553>, that thou mayest observe <08104> to do <06213> according to all <03605> the law <08451>, which <0834> Moses <04872> my servant <05650> commanded <06680> thee: turn <05493> not from it [to] the right < 03225> hand <03225> or [to] the left <08040>, that thou mayest prosper <07919> whithersoever thou goest <03212>.

8 This <02088> book <05612> of the law <08451> shall not depart <04185> out of thy mouth <06310>; but thou shalt meditate <01897> therein day <03119> and night < 03915>, that thou mayest observe <08104> to do <06213> according to all <03605> that is written <03789> therein: for then <0227> thou shalt make thy way <01870> prosperous < 06743>, and then <0227> thou shalt have good success <07919> .

9 Have not I commanded <06680> thee? Be strong < 02388> and of a good courage <0553>; be not afraid <06206>, neither <0408> be thou dismayed <02865>: for the LORD < 03068> thy God <0430> [is] with thee whithersoever thou goest < 03212>.

10. Then Joshua <03091> commanded <06680> the officers <07860> of the people <05971>, saying <0559>,

11 Pass <05674> through <07130> the host < 04264>, and command <06680> the people <05971>, saying < 0559>, Prepare <03559> you victuals <06720>; for within < 05750> three <07969> days <03117> ye shall pass < 05674> over <05674> this <02088> Jordan <03383>, to go <0935> in to possess <03423> the land <0776>, which <0834> the LORD <03068> your God <0430> giveth < 05414> you to possess <03423> it.

12 And to the Reubenites <07206>, and to the Gadites < 01425>, and to half <02677> the tribe <07626> of Manasseh <04519>, spake <0559> Joshua <03091>, saying <0559> ,

13 Remember <02142> the word <01697> which < 0834> Moses <04872> the servant <05650> of the LORD < 03068> commanded <06680> you, saying <0559>, The LORD < 03068> your God <0430> hath given you rest <05117>, and hath given <05414> you this <02063> land <0776>.

14 Your wives <0802>, your little <02945> ones, and your cattle <04735>, shall remain <03427> in the land < 0776> which <0834> Moses <04872> gave <05414> you on this side <05676> Jordan <03383>; but ye shall pass < 05674> before <06440> your brethren <0251> armed < 02571>, all <03605> the mighty <01368> men of valour < 02428>, and help <05826> them;

15 Until <05704> the LORD <03068> have given your brethren <0251> rest <05117>, as [he hath given] you, and they also <01571> have possessed <03423> the land <0776> which <0834> the LORD <03068> your God <0430> giveth < 05414> them: then ye shall return <07725> unto the land < 0776> of your possession <03425>, and enjoy <03423> it, which <0834> Moses <04872> the LORD'S <03068> servant <05650> gave <05414> you on this side <05676> Jordan < 03383> toward the sunrising.

16. And they answered <06030> Joshua <03091>, saying <0559>, All <03605> that thou commandest <06680> us we will do <06213>, and whithersoever thou sendest <07971> us, we will go <03212>.

17 According as we hearkened <08085> unto Moses < 04872> in all <03605> things, so <03651> will we hearken <08085> unto thee: only <07535> the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> be with thee, as he was with Moses <04872>.

18 Whosoever [he be] that doth rebel <04784> against thy commandment <06310>, and will not hearken <08085> unto thy words <01697> in all <03605> that thou commandest <06680> him, he shall be put to death <04191>: only <07535> be strong <02388> and of a good courage <0553>.

Joshua 2

1. And Joshua <03091> the son <01121> of Nun < 05126> sent <07971> out of Shittim <07851> two <08147> men <0582> to spy <07270> secretly <02791>, saying < 0559>, Go <03212> view <07200> the land <0776>, even Jericho <03405>. And they went <03212>, and came <0935> into an harlot's <02181> house <01004>, named <08034> Rahab <07343>, and lodged <07901> there <08033>.

2 And it was told <0559> the king <04428> of Jericho <03405>, saying <0559>, Behold <02009>, there came <0935> men <0582> in hither to night <03915> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478> to search <02658> out the country <0776>.

3 And the king <04428> of Jericho <03405> sent < 07971> unto Rahab <07343>, saying <0559>, Bring < 03318> forth <03318> the men <0582> that are come < 0935> to thee, which <0834> are entered <0935> into thine house <01004>: for they be come <0935> to search <02658> out all <03605> the country <0776>.

4 And the woman <0802> took <03947> the two < 08147> men <0582>, and hid <06845> them, and said < 0559> thus <03651>, There came <0935> men <0582> unto me, but I wist <03045> not whence <0370> they [were]:

5 And it came <01961> to pass [about the time] of shutting <05462> of the gate <08179>, when it was dark < 02822>, that the men <0582> went <03318> out: whither < 0575> the men <0582> went <01980> I wot <03045> not: pursue <07291> after <0310> them quickly <04118>; for ye shall overtake <05381> them.

6 But she had brought <05927> them up to the roof < 01406> of the house, and hid <02934> them with the stalks < 06086> of flax <06593>, which she had laid in order <06186> upon the roof <01406>.

7 And the men <0582> pursued <07291> after < 0310> them the way <01870> to Jordan <03383> unto the fords <04569>: and as soon <0834> as they which <0834> pursued <07291> after <0310> them were gone <03318> out, they shut <05462> the gate <08179>.

8. And before <02962> they were laid <07901> down <07901>, she came <05927> up unto them upon the roof < 01406>;

9 And she said <0559> unto the men <0582>, I know <03045> that the LORD <03068> hath given <05414> you the land <0776>, and that your terror <0367> is fallen < 05307> upon us, and that all <03605> the inhabitants <03427> of the land <0776> faint <04127> because <06440> of you.

10 For we have heard <08085> how <0834> the LORD <03068> dried <03001> up the water <04325> of the Red <05488> sea <03220> for you, when ye came <03318> out of Egypt <04714>; and what <0834> ye did <06213> unto the two <08147> kings <04428> of the Amorites <0567>, that [were] on the other <05676> side <05676> Jordan <03383>, Sihon <05511> and Og <05747>, whom ye utterly destroyed < 02763>.

11 And as soon as we had heard <08085> [these things], our hearts <03824> did melt <04549>, neither <03808> did there remain <06965> any more <05750> courage <07307> in any man <0376>, because <06440> of you: for the LORD < 03068> your God <0430>, he [is] God <0430> in heaven < 08064> above <04605>, and in earth <0776> beneath < 08478>.

12 Now <06258> therefore, I pray <04994> you, swear <07650> unto me by the LORD <03068>, since <03588> I have shewed <06213> you kindness <02617>, that ye will also <01571> shew <06213> kindness <02617> unto my father's <01> house <01004>, and give <05414> me a true < 0571> token <0226>:

13 And [that] ye will save <02421> alive <02421> my father <01>, and my mother <0517>, and my brethren <0251> , and my sisters <0269>, and all <03605> that they have, and deliver <05337> our lives <05315> from death <04194>.

14 And the men <0582> answered <0559> her, Our life <05315> for yours, if <0518> ye utter <05046> not this <02088> our business <01697>. And it shall be, when the LORD <03068> hath given <05414> us the land <0776>, that we will deal <06213> kindly <02617> and truly <0571> with thee.

15 Then she let <03381> them down <03381> by a cord <02256> through <01157> the window <02474>: for her house <01004> [was] upon the town <07023> wall <02346>, and she dwelt <03427> upon the wall <02346>.

16 And she said <0559> unto them, Get <03212> you to the mountain <02022>, lest <06435> the pursuers < 07291> meet <06293> you; and hide <02247> yourselves there <08033> three <07969> days <03117>, until <05704> the pursuers <07291> be returned <07725>: and afterward < 0310> may ye go <03212> your way <01870>.

17 And the men <0582> said <0559> unto her, We [will be] blameless <05355> of this <02088> thine oath < 07621> which <0834> thou hast made us swear <07650>.

18 Behold <02009>, [when] we come <0935> into the land <0776>, thou shalt bind <07194> this <02088> line <08615> of scarlet <08144> thread <02339> in the window <02474> which <0834> thou didst let <03381> us down < 03381> by: and thou shalt bring <0622> thy father <01>, and thy mother <0517>, and thy brethren <0251>, and all < 03605> thy father's <01> household <01004>, home < 01004> unto thee.

19 And it shall be, [that] whosoever shall go <03318> out of the doors <01817> of thy house <01004> into the street < 02351>, his blood <01818> [shall be] upon his head <07218>, and we [will be] guiltless <05355>: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house <01004>, his blood <01818> [shall be] on our head <07218>, if <0518> [any] hand <03027> be upon him.

20 And if <0518> thou utter <05046> this < 02088> our business <01697>, then we will be quit <05355> of thine oath <07621> which <0834> thou hast made us to swear <07650>.

21 And she said <0559>, According unto your words < 01697>, so <03651> [be] it. And she sent <07971> them away, and they departed <03212>: and she bound <07194> the scarlet <08144> line <08515> in the window <02474>.

22. And they went <03212>, and came <0935> unto the mountain <02022>, and abode <03427> there <08033> three <07969> days <03117>, until <05704> the pursuers < 07291> were returned <07725>: and the pursuers <07291> sought <01245> [them] throughout all <03605> the way < 01870>, but found <04672> [them] not.

23 So the two <08147> men <0582> returned < 07725>, and descended <03381> from the mountain <02022>, and passed <05674> over <05674>, and came <0935> to Joshua <03091> the son <01121> of Nun <05126>, and told <05608> him all <03605> [things] that befell <04672> them:

24 And they said <0559> unto Joshua <03091>, Truly <03588> the LORD <03068> hath delivered <05414> into our hands <03027> all <03605> the land <0776>; for even < 01571> all <03605> the inhabitants <03427> of the country <0776> do faint <04127> because <06440> of us.

Joshua 3

1. And Joshua <03091> rose <07925> early < 07925> in the morning <01242>; and they removed <05265> from Shittim <07851>, and came <0935> to Jordan <03383>, he and all <03605> the children <01121> of Israel <03478> , and lodged <03885> there <08033> before <02962> they passed <05674> over <05674>.

2 And it came <01961> to pass after <07097> three <07969> days <03117>, that the officers <07860> went < 05974> through <07130> the host <04264>;

3 And they commanded <06680> the people <05971>, saying <0559>, When ye see <07200> the ark <0727> of the covenant <01285> of the LORD <03068> your God <0430>, and the priests <03548> the Levites <03881> bearing < 05375> it, then ye shall remove <05265> from your place < 04725>, and go <01980> after <0310> it.

4 Yet <0389> there shall be a space <07350> between <0996> you and it, about two thousand <0505> cubits < 0520> by measure <04060>: come <07126> not near < 07126> unto it, that ye may know <03045> the way <01870> by which <0834> ye must go <03212>: for ye have not passed < 05674> [this] way <01870> heretofore <08543>.

5 And Joshua <03091> said <0559> unto the people <05971>, Sanctify <06942> yourselves: for to morrow < 04279> the LORD <03068> will do <06213> wonders < 06381> among <07130> you.

6 And Joshua <03091> spake <0559> unto the priests <03548>, saying <0559>, Take <05375> up the ark < 0727> of the covenant <01285>, and pass <05674> over < 05674> before <06440> the people <05971>. And they took < 05375> up the ark <0727> of the covenant <01285>, and went <03212> before <06440> the people <05971>.

7. And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto Joshua < 03091>, This <02088> day <03117> will I begin <02490> to magnify <01431> thee in the sight <05869> of all < 03605> Israel <03478>, that they may know <03045> that, as I was with Moses <04872>, [so] I will be with thee.

8 And thou shalt command <06680> the priests <03548> that bear <05375> the ark <0727> of the covenant <01285> , saying <0559>, When ye are come <0935> to the brink < 07097> of the water <04325> of Jordan <03383>, ye shall stand <05975> still in Jordan <03383>.

9 And Joshua <03091> said <0559> unto the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, Come <05066> hither < 05066>, and hear <08085> the words <01697> of the LORD < 03068> your God <0430>.

10 And Joshua <03091> said <0559>, Hereby < 02063> ye shall know <03045> that the living <02416> God <0410> [is] among <07130> you, and [that] he will without fail drive <03423> out from before <06440> you the Canaanites < 03669>, and the Hittites <02850>, and the Hivites <02340>, and the Perizzites <06522>, and the Girgashites <01622>, and the Amorites <0567>, and the Jebusites <02983>.

11 Behold <02009>, the ark <0727> of the covenant <01285> of the Lord <0113> of all <03605> the earth < 0776> passeth <05674> over <05674> before <06440> you into Jordan <03383>.

12 Now <06258> therefore take <03947> you twelve men <0376> out of the tribes <07626> of Israel <03478>, out of every tribe <07626> a man <0376>.

13 And it shall come <01961> to pass, as soon as the soles <03709> of the feet <07272> of the priests <03548> that bear <05375> the ark <0727> of the LORD <03068>, the Lord <0113> of all <03605> the earth <0776>, shall rest <05117> in the waters <04325> of Jordan <03383>, [that] the waters <04325> of Jordan <03383> shall be cut < 03772> off [from] the waters <04325> that come <03381> down <03381> from above <04605>; and they shall stand <05975> upon an heap <05067>.

14. And it came <01961> to pass, when the people < 05971> removed <05265> from their tents <0168>, to pass < 05674> over <05674> Jordan <03383>, and the priests < 03548> bearing <05375> the ark <0727> of the covenant < 01285> before <06440> the people <05971>;

15 And as they that bare <05375> the ark <0727> were come <0935> unto Jordan <03383>, and the feet < 07272> of the priests <03548> that bare <05375> the ark < 0727> were dipped <02881> in the brim <07097> of the water <04325>, (for Jordan <03383> overfloweth <04390> all < 03605> his banks <01415> all <03605> the time <03117> of harvest <07105>,)

16 That the waters <04325> which came <03381> down <03381> from above <04605> stood <05975> [and] rose < 06965> up upon an heap <05067> very <03966> far < 07368> from the city <05892> Adam <0121>, that [is] beside <06654> Zaretan: and those that came <03381> down <03381> toward <05921> the sea <03220> of the plain <06160>, [even] the salt <04417> sea <03220>, failed <08552>, [and] were cut <03772> off: and the people <05971> passed < 05674> over <05674> right against <05048> Jericho < 03405>.

17 And the priests <03548> that bare <05375> the ark <0727> of the covenant <01285> of the LORD <03068> stood <05975> firm <03559> on dry <02724> ground in the midst <08432> of Jordan <03383>, and all <03605> the Israelites <03478> passed <05674> over <05674> on dry <02724> ground, until <05704> all <03605> the people < 01471> were passed <05674> clean <08552> over <05674> Jordan <03383>.

Joshua 4

1. And it came <01961> to pass, when <0834> all < 03605> the people <01471> were clean <08552> passed < 05674> over <05674> Jordan <03383>, that the LORD < 03068> spake <0559> unto Joshua <03091>, saying <0559> ,

2 Take <03947> you twelve men <0582> out of the people <05971>, out of every tribe <07626> a man <0376>,

3 And command <06680> ye them, saying <0559>, Take <05375> you hence <02088> out of the midst <08432> of Jordan <03383>, out of the place where the priests <03548>' feet <07272> stood <04673> firm <03559>, twelve stones <068>, and ye shall carry <05674> them over <05674> with you, and leave <03241> them in the lodging <04411> place, where <0834> ye shall lodge <03885> this night <03915>.

4 Then Joshua <03091> called <07121> the twelve men <0376>, whom <0834> he had prepared <03559> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, out of every tribe < 07626> a man <0376>:

5 And Joshua <03091> said <0559> unto them, Pass <05674> over <05674> before <06440> the ark <0727> of the LORD <03068> your God <0430> into <0413> the midst <08432> of Jordan <03383>, and take <07311> ye up every man <0376> of you a stone <068> upon his shoulder < 07926>, according unto the number <04557> of the tribes < 07626> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478>:

6 That this <02063> may be a sign <0226> among < 07130> you, [that] when <03588> your children <01121> ask <07592> [their fathers] in time <04279> to come <04279>, saying <0559>, What <04100> [mean] ye by these <0428> stones <068>?

7 Then ye shall answer <0559> them, That the waters < 04325> of Jordan <03383> were cut <03772> off before < 06440> the ark <0727> of the covenant <01285> of the LORD <03068>; when it passed <05674> over <05674> Jordan < 03383>, the waters <04325> of Jordan <03383> were cut < 03772> off: and these <0428> stones <068> shall be for a memorial <02146> unto the children <01121> of Israel < 03478> for ever <05769>.

8 And the children <01121> of Israel <03478> did <06213> so <03651> as Joshua <03091> commanded < 06680>, and took <05375> up twelve stones <068> out of the midst <08432> of Jordan <03383>, as the LORD <03068> spake <01696> unto Joshua <03091>, according to the number < 04557> of the tribes <07626> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, and carried <05674> them over <05674> with them unto the place where <0413> they lodged <04411>, and laid <03241> them down there <08033>.

9 And Joshua <03091> set <06965> up twelve stones <068> in the midst <08432> of Jordan <03383>, in the place where the feet <07272> of the priests <03548> which bare <05375> the ark <0727> of the covenant <01285> stood < 04673>: and they are there <08033> unto this <02063> day <03117>.

10. For the priests <03548> which bare <05375> the ark <0727> stood <05975> in the midst <08432> of Jordan <03383>, until <05704> every <03605> thing was finished <08552> that the LORD <03068> commanded <06680> Joshua <03091> to speak <01696> unto the people <05971>, according to all <03605> that Moses <04872> commanded < 06680> Joshua <03091>: and the people <05971> hasted < 04116> and passed <05674> over <05674>.

11 And it came <01961> to pass, when <0834> all < 03605> the people <05971> were clean <08552> passed < 05674> over <05674>, that the ark <0727> of the LORD < 03068> passed <05674> over <05674>, and the priests < 03548>, in the presence <06440> of the people <05971>.

12 And the children <01121> of Reuben <07205>, and the children <01121> of Gad <01410>, and half <02677> the tribe <07626> of Manasseh <04519>, passed <05674> over <05674> armed <02571> before <06440> the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, as Moses <04872> spake < 01696> unto them:

13 About forty <0705> thousand <0505> prepared < 02502> for war <06635> passed <05674> over <05674> before <06440> the LORD <03068> unto battle <04421>, to the plains <06160> of Jericho <03405>.

14 On that day <03117> the LORD <03068> magnified <01431> Joshua <03091> in the sight <05869> of all < 03605> Israel <03478>; and they feared <03372> him, as they feared <03372> Moses <04872>, all <03605> the days < 03117> of his life <02416>.

15 And the LORD <03068> spake <0559> unto Joshua <03091>, saying <0559>,

16 Command <06680> the priests <03548> that bear <05375> the ark <0727> of the testimony <05715>, that they come <05927> up out of Jordan <03383>.

17 Joshua <03091> therefore commanded <06680> the priests <03548>, saying <0559>, Come <05927> ye up out of Jordan <03383>.

18 And it came <01961> to pass, when the priests < 03548> that bare <05375> the ark <0727> of the covenant < 01285> of the LORD <03068> were come <05927> up out of the midst <08432> of Jordan <03383>, [and] the soles <03709> of the priests <03548>' feet <07272> were lifted <05423> up unto the dry <02724> land, that the waters <04325> of Jordan <03383> returned <07725> unto their place <04725>, and flowed <03212> over <05921> all <03605> his banks <01415>, as [they did] before.

19 And the people <05971> came <05927> up out of Jordan <03383> on the tenth <06218> [day] of the first < 07223> month <02320>, and encamped <02583> in Gilgal < 01537>, in the east <04217> border <07097> of Jericho < 03405>.

20. And those <0428> twelve stones <068>, which < 0834> they took <03947> out of Jordan <03383>, did Joshua <03091> pitch <06965> in Gilgal <01537>.

21 And he spake <0559> unto the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, saying <0559>, When <0834> your children <01121> shall ask <07592> their fathers <01> in time < 04279> to come <04279>, saying <0559>, What <04100> [mean] these <0428> stones <068>?

22 Then ye shall let your children <01121> know < 03045>, saying <0559>, Israel <03478> came <05674> over <05674> this <02088> Jordan <03383> on dry < 03004> land.

23 For the LORD <03068> your God <0430> dried < 03001> up the waters <04325> of Jordan <03383> from before <06440> you, until <05704> ye were passed <05674> over <05674>, as the LORD <03068> your God <0430> did < 06213> to the Red <05488> sea <03220>, which <0834> he dried <03001> up from before <06440> us, until <05704> we were gone <05674> over <05674>:

24 That all <03605> the people <05971> of the earth <0776> might know <03045> the hand <03027> of the LORD <03068>, that it [is] mighty <02389>: that ye might fear < 03372> the LORD <03068> your God <0430> for ever.

Joshua 5

1. And it came <01961> to pass, when all <03605> the kings <04428> of the Amorites <0567>, which <0834> [were] on the side <05676> of Jordan <03383> westward < 03220>, and all <03605> the kings <04428> of the Canaanites <03669>, which <0834> [were] by the sea <03220>, heard <08085> that the LORD <03068> had dried <03001> up the waters <04325> of Jordan <03383> from before <06440> the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, until <05704> we were passed <05674> over <05674>, that their heart < 03824> melted <04549>, neither <03808> was there spirit < 07307> in them any more <05750>, because <06440> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478>.

2 At that time <06256> the LORD <03068> said < 0559> unto Joshua <03091>, Make <06213> thee sharp < 06697> knives <02719>, and circumcise <04135> again < 07725> the children <01121> of Israel <03478> the second <08145> time.

3 And Joshua <03091> made <06213> him sharp < 06697> knives <02719>, and circumcised <04135> the children <01121> of Israel <03478> at <0413> the hill < 01389> of the foreskins <06190>.

4 And this <02088> [is] the cause <01697> why Joshua <03091> did circumcise <04135>: All <03605> the people <05971> that came <03318> out of Egypt <04714>, [that were] males <02145>, [even] all <03605> the men < 0582> of war <04421>, died <04191> in the wilderness < 04057> by the way <01870>, after they came <03318> out of Egypt <04714>.

5 Now <03588> all <03605> the people <05971> that came <03318> out were circumcised <04135>: but all < 03605> the people <05971> [that were] born <03209> in the wilderness <04057> by the way <01870> as they came < 03318> forth <03318> out of Egypt <04714>, [them] they had not circumcised <04135>.

6 For the children <01121> of Israel <03478> walked <01980> forty <0705> years <08141> in the wilderness < 04057>, till <05704> all <03605> the people <01471> [that were] men <0582> of war <04421>, which came <03318> out of Egypt <04714>, were consumed <08552>, because < 0834> they obeyed <08085> not the voice <06963> of the LORD <03068>: unto whom the LORD <03068> sware <07650> that he would not shew <07200> them the land <0776>, which < 0834> the LORD <03068> sware <07650> unto their fathers < 01> that he would give <05414> us, a land <0776> that floweth <02100> with milk <02461> and honey <01706>.

7 And their children <01121>, [whom] he raised < 06965> up in their stead <08478>, them Joshua <03091> circumcised <04135>: for they were uncircumcised <06189>, because <03588> they had not circumcised <04135> them by the way <01870>.

8 And it came <01961> to pass, when <0834> they had done <08552> circumcising <04135> all <03605> the people <01471>, that they abode <03427> in their places <08478> in the camp <04264>, till <05704> they were whole <02421> .

9 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto Joshua < 03091>, This day <03117> have I rolled <01556> away the reproach <02781> of Egypt <04714> from off <05921> you. Wherefore the name <08034> of the place <04725> is called < 07121> Gilgal <01537> unto this <02088> day <03117>.

10. And the children <01121> of Israel <03478> encamped <02583> in Gilgal <01537>, and kept <06213> the passover <06453> on the fourteenth day <03117> of the month <02320> at even <06153> in the plains <06160> of Jericho <03405>.

11 And they did eat <0398> of the old <05669> corn <05669> of the land <0776> on the morrow <04283> after the passover <06453>, unleavened <04682> cakes <04682>, and parched [corn] in the selfsame day <03117>.

12 And the manna <04478> ceased <07673> on the morrow <04283> after they had eaten <0398> of the old < 05669> corn <05669> of the land <0776>; neither < 03808> had <01961> the children <01121> of Israel < 03478> manna <04478> any more <05750>; but they did eat < 0398> of the fruit <08393> of the land <0776> of Canaan < 03667> that year <08141>.

13. And it came <01961> to pass, when Joshua <03091> was by Jericho <03405>, that he lifted <05375> up his eyes < 05869> and looked <07200>, and, behold <02009>, there stood <05975> a man <0376> over <05048> against <05048> him with his sword <02719> drawn <08025> in his hand < 03027>: and Joshua <03091> went <03212> unto him, and said <0559> unto him, [Art] thou for us, or for our adversaries < 06862>?

14 And he said <0559>, Nay <03808>; but [as] captain <08269> of the host <06635> of the LORD <0113> am I now <06258> come <0935>. And Joshua <03091> fell <05307> on <0413> his face <06440> to the earth < 0776>, and did worship <07812>, and said <0559> unto him, What <04100> saith <01696> my lord <03068> unto his servant <05650>?

15 And the captain <08269> of the LORD'S <03068> host <06635> said <0559> unto Joshua <03091>, Loose < 05394> thy shoe <05275> from off <05921> thy foot < 07272>; for the place <04725> whereon thou standest <05975> [is] holy <06944>. And Joshua <03091> did <06213> so < 03651>.

Joshua 6

1. Now Jericho <03405> was straitly shut <05462> up because <06440> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478> : none <0369> went <03318> out, and none <0369> came < 0935> in.

2 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto Joshua < 03091>, See <07200>, I have given <05414> into thine hand <03027> Jericho <03405>, and the king <04428> thereof, [and] the mighty <01368> men of valour <02428>.

3 And ye shall compass <05437> the city <05892>, all <03605> [ye] men <0582> of war <04421>, [and] go < 05362> round <05362> about the city <05892> once < 0259>. Thus <03541> shalt thou do <06213> six <08337> days <03117>.

4 And seven <07651> priests <03548> shall bear < 05375> before <06440> the ark <0727> seven <07651> trumpets <07782> of rams <03104>' horns <03104>: and the seventh <07637> day <03117> ye shall compass <05437> the city <05892> seven <07651> times <06471>, and the priests <03548> shall blow <08628> with the trumpets < 07782>.

5 And it shall come <01961> to pass, that when they make a long <04900> [blast] with the ram's <03104> horn < 07161>, [and] when ye hear <08085> the sound <06963> of the trumpet <07782>, all <03605> the people <05971> shall shout <07321> with a great <01419> shout <08643>; and the wall <02346> of the city <05892> shall fall <05307> down flat <08478>, and the people <05971> shall ascend < 05927> up every man <0376> straight before <05048> him.

6. And Joshua <03091> the son <01121> of Nun < 05126> called <07121> the priests <03548>, and said < 0559> unto them, Take <05375> up the ark <0727> of the covenant <01285>, and let seven <07651> priests <03548> bear <05375> seven <07651> trumpets <07782> of rams < 03104>' horns <03104> before <06440> the ark <0727> of the LORD <03068>.

7 And he said <0559> unto the people <05971>, Pass <05674> on, and compass <05437> the city <05892>, and let him that is armed <02502> pass <05674> on <0413> before <06440> the ark <0727> of the LORD <03068>.

8 And it came <01961> to pass, when Joshua <03091> had spoken <0559> unto the people <05971>, that the seven < 07651> priests <03548> bearing <05375> the seven < 07651> trumpets <07782> of rams <03104>' horns passed < 05674> on <0413> before <06440> the LORD <03068>, and blew <08628> with the trumpets <07782>: and the ark < 0727> of the covenant <01285> of the LORD <03068> followed them.

9 And the armed <02502> men went <01980> before < 06440> the priests <03548> that blew <08628> with the trumpets <07782>, and the rereward <0622> came <01980> after <0310> the ark <0727>, [the priests <03548>] going <01980> on, and blowing <08628> with the trumpets <07782> .

10 And Joshua <03091> had commanded <06680> the people <05971>, saying <0559>, Ye shall not shout <07321> , nor <03808> make any noise <08085> with your voice < 06963>, neither <03808> shall [any] word <01697> proceed <03318> out of your mouth <06310>, until <05704> the day <03117> I bid <0559> you shout <07321>; then shall ye shout <07321>.

11 So the ark <0727> of the LORD <03068> compassed <05437> the city <05892>, going <05362> about < 05362> [it] once <0259>: and they came <0935> into the camp <04264>, and lodged <03885> in the camp <04264>.

12 And Joshua <03091> rose <07925> early < 07925> in the morning <01242>, and the priests <03548> took <05375> up the ark <0727> of the LORD <03068>.

13 And seven <07651> priests bearing <05375> seven <07651> trumpets <07782> of rams <03104>' horns < 03104> before <06440> the ark <0727> of the LORD < 03068> went <01980> on <0413> continually <01980>, and blew <08628> with the trumpets <07782>: and the armed < 02502> men went <01980> before <06440> them; but the rereward <0622> came <01980> after <0310> the ark < 0727> of the LORD <03068>, [the priests <03548>] going < 01980> on <0413>, and blowing <08628> with the trumpets < 07782>.

14 And the second <08145> day <03117> they compassed <05437> the city <05892> once <0259>, and returned <07725> into the camp <04264>: so <03541> they did <06213> six <08337> days <03117>.

15 And it came <01961> to pass on the seventh < 07637> day <03117>, that they rose <07925> early < 07925> about the dawning <05927> of the day <07837>, and compassed <05437> the city <05892> after the same <02088> manner <04941> seven <07651> times <06471>: only < 07535> on that day <03117> they compassed <05437> the city <05892> seven <07651> times <06471>.

16 And it came <01961> to pass at the seventh < 07637> time <06471>, when the priests <03548> blew < 08628> with the trumpets <07782>, Joshua <03091> said < 0559> unto the people <05971>, Shout <07321>; for the LORD <03068> hath given <05414> you the city <05892>.

17. And the city <05892> shall be accursed <02764>, [even] it, and all <03605> that [are] therein, to the LORD < 03068>: only <07535> Rahab <07343> the harlot <02181> shall live <02421>, she and all <03605> that [are] with her in the house <01004>, because <03588> she hid <02244> the messengers <04397> that we sent <07971>.

18 And ye, in any wise keep <08104> [yourselves] from the accursed <02764> thing, lest <06435> ye make [yourselves] accursed <02764>, when ye take <03947> of the accursed < 02764> thing, and make <07760> the camp <04264> of Israel <03478> a curse <02764>, and trouble <05916> it.

19 But all <03605> the silver <03701>, and gold < 02091>, and vessels <03627> of brass <05178> and iron < 01270>, [are] consecrated <06944> unto the LORD <03068>: they shall come <0935> into the treasury <0214> of the LORD <03068>.

20 So the people <05971> shouted <07321> when [the priests <03548>] blew <08628> with the trumpets <07782>: and it came <01961> to pass, when the people <05971> heard < 08085> the sound <06963> of the trumpet <07782>, and the people <05971> shouted <07321> with a great <01419> shout <08643>, that the wall <02346> fell <05307> down flat <08478>, so that the people <05971> went <05927> up into the city <05892>, every man <0376> straight before < 05048> him, and they took <03920> the city <05892>.

21 And they utterly destroyed <02763> all <03605> that [was] in the city <05892>, both man <0376> and woman < 0802>, young <05288> and old <05288>, and ox <07794>, and sheep <07716>, and ass <02543>, with the edge <06310> of the sword <02719>.

22 But Joshua <03091> had said <0559> unto the two <08147> men <0582> that had spied <07270> out the country <0776>, Go <0935> into the harlot's <02181> house <01004>, and bring <03318> out thence <08033> the woman <0802>, and all <03605> that she hath, as ye sware < 07650> unto her.

23 And the young <05288> men that were spies <07270> went <0935> in, and brought <03318> out Rahab <07343>, and her father <01>, and her mother <0517>, and her brethren <0251>, and all <03605> that she had; and they brought < 03318> out all <03605> her kindred <04940>, and left < 03241> them without <02351> the camp <04264> of Israel < 03478>.

24 And they burnt <08313> the city <05892> with fire <0784>, and all <03605> that [was] therein: only < 07535> the silver <03701>, and the gold <02091>, and the vessels <03627> of brass <05178> and of iron <01270>, they put <05414> into the treasury <0214> of the house < 01004> of the LORD <03068>.

25 And Joshua <03091> saved <02421> Rahab < 07343> the harlot <02181> alive <02421>, and her father's <01> household <01004>, and all <03605> that she had; and she dwelleth <03427> in Israel <03478> [even] unto this <02088> day <03117>; because <03588> she hid < 02244> the messengers <04397>, which <0834> Joshua < 03091> sent <07971> to spy <07270> out Jericho <03405> .

26 And Joshua <03091> adjured <07650> [them] at that time <06256>, saying <0559>, Cursed <0779> [be] the man <0376> before <06440> the LORD <03068>, that riseth <06965> up and buildeth <01129> this <02063> city < 05892> Jericho <03405>: he shall lay the foundation <03245> thereof in his firstborn <01060>, and in his youngest <06810> [son] shall he set <05324> up the gates <01817> of it.

27 So the LORD <03068> was with Joshua <03091>; and his fame <08089> was [noised] throughout all <03605> the country <0776>.

Joshua 7

1. But the children <01121> of Israel <03478> committed <04600> a trespass <04604> in the accursed < 02764> thing: for Achan <05912>, the son <01121> of Carmi <03756>, the son <01121> of Zabdi <02067>, the son < 01121> of Zerah <02226>, of the tribe <04294> of Judah < 03063>, took <03947> of the accursed <02764> thing: and the anger <0639> of the LORD <03068> was kindled <02734> against the children <01121> of Israel <03478>.

2 And Joshua <03091> sent <07971> men <0582> from Jericho <03405> to Ai <05857>, which <0834> [is] beside <05973> Bethaven <01007>, on the east <06924> side of Bethel <01008>, and spake <0559> unto them, saying < 0559>, Go <05927> up and view <07270> the country < 0776>. And the men <0582> went <05927> up and viewed < 07370> Ai <05857>.

3 And they returned <07725> to Joshua <03091>, and said <0559> unto him, Let not all <03605> the people < 05971> go <05927> up; but let about two or <0176> three < 07969> thousand <0505> men <0376> go <05927> up and smite <06221> Ai <05857>; [and] make not all <03605> the people <05971> to labour <03021> thither <08033>; for they [are but] few <04592>.

4 So there went <05927> up thither <08033> of the people <05971> about three <07969> thousand <0505> men <0376>: and they fled <05127> before <06440> the men < 0582> of Ai <05857>.

5 And the men <0582> of Ai <05857> smote < 05221> of them about thirty <07970> and six <08337> men < 0376>: for they chased <07291> them [from] before <06440> the gate <08179> [even] unto Shebarim <07671>, and smote < 05221> them in the going <04174> down <04174>: wherefore the hearts <03824> of the people <05971> melted <04549>, and became <01961> as water <04325>.

6. And Joshua <03091> rent <07167> his clothes < 08071>, and fell <05307> to the earth <0776> upon his face <06440> before <06440> the ark <0727> of the LORD < 03068> until <05704> the eventide <06153>, he and the elders <02205> of Israel <03478>, and put <05927> dust <06083> upon their heads <07218>.

7 And Joshua <03091> said <0559>, Alas <0160>, O Lord <0136> GOD <03069>, wherefore <04100> hast thou at all brought <05674> this <02088> people <05971> over <05674> Jordan <03383>, to deliver <05414> us into the hand <03027> of the Amorites <0567>, to destroy <06> us? would <03863> to God we had been content <02974>, and dwelt <03427> on the other <05676> side <05676> Jordan < 03383>!

8 O Lord <0136>, what <04100> shall I say < 0559>, when <06310> Israel <03478> turneth <02015> their backs <06203> before <06440> their enemies <0341>!

9 For the Canaanites <03669> and all <03605> the inhabitants <03427> of the land <0776> shall hear <08085> [of it], and shall environ <05437> us round <05921>, and cut <03772> off our name <08034> from the earth <0776>: and what <04100> wilt thou do <06213> unto thy great <01419> name <08034>?

10. And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto Joshua < 03091>, Get <06965> thee up; wherefore <04100> liest < 05307> thou thus <02088> upon thy face <06440>?

11 Israel <03478> hath sinned <02398>, and they have also <01571> transgressed <05674> my covenant < 01285> which <0834> I commanded <06680> them: for they have even <01571> taken <03947> of the accursed <02764> thing, and have also <01571> stolen <01589>, and dissembled < 03584> also <01571>, and they have put <07760> [it] even <01571> among their own stuff <03627>.

12 Therefore the children <01121> of Israel <03478> could <03201> not stand <06965> before <06440> their enemies <0341>, [but] turned <06437> [their] backs < 06203> before <06440> their enemies <0341>, because < 03588> they were accursed <02764>: neither <03808> will I be with you any more <03254>, except ye destroy <08045> the accursed <02764> from among <07130> you.

13 Up, sanctify <06942> the people <05971>, and say <0559>, Sanctify <06942> yourselves against to morrow < 04279>: for thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>, [There is] an accursed < 02764> thing in the midst <07130> of thee, O Israel <03478>: thou canst <03201> not stand <06965> before <06440> thine enemies <0341>, until <05704> ye take <05493> away the accursed <02764> thing from among <07130> you.

14 In the morning <01242> therefore ye shall be brought <07126> according to your tribes <07626>: and it shall be, [that] the tribe <07626> which <0834> the LORD <03068> taketh <03920> shall come <07126> according to the families <04940> [thereof]; and the family <04940> which <0834> the LORD <03068> shall take <03920> shall come <07126> by households <01004>; and the household <01004> which < 0834> the LORD <03068> shall take <03920> shall come < 07126> man <01397> by man <01397>.

15 And it shall be, [that] he that is taken <03920> with the accursed <02764> thing shall be burnt <08313> with fire <0784>, he and all <03605> that he hath: because <03588> he hath transgressed <05674> the covenant <01285> of the LORD <03068>, and because <03588> he hath wrought <06213> folly <05039> in Israel <03478>.

16. So Joshua <03091> rose <07925> up early < 07925> in the morning <01242>, and brought <07126> Israel <03478> by their tribes <07626>; and the tribe <07626> of Judah <03063> was taken <03920>:

17 And he brought <07126> the family <04940> of Judah <03063>; and he took <03920> the family <04940> of the Zarhites <02227>: and he brought <07126> the family < 04940> of the Zarhites <02227> man <01397> by man < 01397>; and Zabdi <02067> was taken <03920>:

18 And he brought <07126> his household <01004> man <01397> by man <01397>; and Achan <05912>, the son < 01121> of Carmi <03756>, the son <01121> of Zabdi < 02067>, the son <01121> of Zerah <02226>, of the tribe < 04294> of Judah <03063>, was taken <03920>.

19 And Joshua <03091> said <0559> unto Achan < 05912>, My son <01121>, give <07760>, I pray <04994> thee, glory <03519> to the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>, and make <05414> confession <08426> unto him; and tell <05046> me now <04994> what <04100> thou hast done <06213>; hide <03582> [it] not from me.

20 And Achan <05912> answered <06030> Joshua < 03091>, and said <0559>, Indeed <0546> I have sinned < 02398> against the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel < 03478>, and thus <02063> and thus <02063> have I done < 06213>:

21 When I saw <07200> among the spoils <07998> a goodly <02896> Babylonish <08152> garment <0155>, and two <08147> hundred <03967> shekels <08255> of silver <03701>, and a wedge <06956> of gold <02091> of fifty <02572> shekels <08255> weight <04948>, then I coveted <02530> them, and took <03947> them; and, behold <02009>, they [are] hid <02934> in the earth <0776> in the midst < 08432> of my tent <0168>, and the silver <03701> under < 08478> it.

22 So Joshua <03091> sent <07971> messengers < 04397>, and they ran <07323> unto the tent <0168>; and, behold <02009>, [it was] hid <02934> in his tent <0168>, and the silver <03701> under <08478> it.

23 And they took <03947> them out of the midst < 08432> of the tent <0168>, and brought <0935> them unto Joshua <03091>, and unto all <03605> the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, and laid <03332> them out before < 06440> the LORD <03068>.

24 And Joshua <03091>, and all <03605> Israel < 03478> with him, took <03947> Achan <05912> the son < 01121> of Zerah <02226>, and the silver <03701>, and the garment <0155>, and the wedge <06956> of gold <02091>, and his sons <01121>, and his daughters <01121>, and his oxen <07794>, and his asses <02543>, and his sheep <06629>, and his tent <0168>, and all <03605> that he had: and they brought <05927> them unto the valley <06010> of Achor < 05911>.

25 And Joshua <03091> said <0559>, Why <04100> hast thou troubled <05916> us? the LORD <03068> shall trouble <05916> thee this <02088> day <03117>. And all < 03605> Israel <03478> stoned <05619> him with stones < 068>, and burned <08313> them with fire <0784>, after they had stoned <07275> them with stones <068>.

26 And they raised <06965> over <05921> him a great <01419> heap <01530> of stones <068> unto this < 02088> day <03117>. So the LORD <03068> turned <07725> from the fierceness <02740> of his anger <0639>. Wherefore the name <08034> of that place <04725> was called <07121> , The valley <06010> of Achor <05911>, unto this <02088> day <03117>.

Joshua 8

1. And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto Joshua < 03091>, Fear <03372> not, neither <0408> be thou dismayed <02865>: take <03947> all <03605> the people < 05971> of war <04421> with thee, and arise <06965>, go < 05927> up to Ai <05857>: see <07200>, I have given < 05414> into thy hand <03027> the king <04428> of Ai < 05857>, and his people <05971>, and his city <05892>, and his land <0776>:

2 And thou shalt do <06213> to Ai <05857> and her king <04428> as thou didst <06213> unto Jericho <03405> and her king <04428>: only <07535> the spoil <07998> thereof, and the cattle <0929> thereof, shall ye take for a prey < 0962> unto yourselves: lay <07760> thee an ambush <0693> for the city <05892> behind <0310> it.

3. So Joshua <03091> arose <06965>, and all < 03605> the people <05971> of war <04421>, to go < 05927> up against Ai <05857>: and Joshua <03091> chose < 0977> out thirty <07970> thousand <0505> mighty < 01368> men <0376> of valour <02428>, and sent <07971> them away by night <03915>.

4 And he commanded <06680> them, saying <0559>, Behold <07200>, ye shall lie <0693> in wait <0693> against the city <05892>, [even] behind <0310> the city < 05892>: go <07368> not very <03966> far <07368> from the city <05892>, but be ye all <03605> ready <03559>:

5 And I, and all <03605> the people <05971> that [are] with me, will approach <07126> unto the city <05892>: and it shall come <01961> to pass, when <03588> they come < 03318> out against <07125> us, as at the first <07223>, that we will flee <05127> before <06440> them,

6 (For they will come <03318> out after <0310> us) till <05704> we have drawn <05423> them from the city < 05892>; for they will say <0559>, They flee <05127> before <06440> us, as at the first <07223>: therefore we will flee <05127> before <06440> them.

7 Then ye shall rise <06965> up from the ambush < 0693>, and seize <03423> upon the city <05892>: for the LORD <03068> your God <0430> will deliver <05414> it into your hand <03027>.

8 And it shall be, when ye have taken <08610> the city <05892>, [that] ye shall set <03341> the city <05892> on fire <0784>: according to the commandment <01697> of the LORD <03068> shall ye do <06213>. See <07200>, I have commanded <06680> you.

9 Joshua <03091> therefore sent <07971> them forth: and they went <03212> to lie in ambush <0693>, and abode < 03427> between <0996> Bethel <01008> and Ai <05857>, on the west <03220> side of Ai <05857>: but Joshua < 03091> lodged <03885> that night <03915> among <08432> the people <05971>.

10 And Joshua <03091> rose <07925> up early < 07925> in the morning <01242>, and numbered <06485> the people <05971>, and went <05927> up, he and the elders < 02205> of Israel <03478>, before <06440> the people < 05971> to Ai <05857>.

11 And all <03605> the people <05971>, [even the people] of war <04421> that [were] with him, went <05927> up, and drew nigh <05066>, and came <0935> before <06440> the city <05892>, and pitched <02583> on the north < 06828> side of Ai <05857>: now [there was] a valley <01516> between <0996> them and Ai <05857>.

12 And he took <03947> about five <02568> thousand <0505> men <0376>, and set <07760> them to lie in ambush <0693> between <0996> Bethel <01008> and Ai <05857> , on the west <03220> side of the city <05892>.

13 And when they had set <07760> the people <05971>, [even] all <03605> the host <04264> that [was] on the north <06828> of the city <05892>, and their liers in wait < 06119> on the west <03220> of the city <05892>, Joshua < 03091> went <03212> that night <03915> into the midst < 08432> of the valley <06010>.

14 And it came <01961> to pass, when the king < 04428> of Ai <05857> saw <07200> [it], that they hasted < 04116> and rose <07925> up early <07925>, and the men < 0582> of the city <05892> went <03318> out against < 07125> Israel <03478> to battle <04421>, he and all < 03605> his people <05971>, at a time appointed <04150>, before <06440> the plain <06160>; but he wist <03045> not that [there were] liers in ambush <0693> against him behind < 0310> the city <05892>.

15 And Joshua <03091> and all <03605> Israel < 03478> made as if they were beaten <05060> before <06440> them, and fled <05127> by the way <01870> of the wilderness <04057>.

16 And all <03605> the people <05971> that [were] in Ai <05857> were called <02199> together to pursue < 07291> after <0310> them: and they pursued <07291> after <0310> Joshua <03091>, and were drawn <05423> away from the city <05892>.

17 And there was not a man <0376> left <07604> in Ai <05857> or Bethel <01008>, that went <03318> not out after <0310> Israel <03478>: and they left <05800> the city <05892> open <06605>, and pursued <07291> after Israel <03478>.

18 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto Joshua < 03091>, Stretch <05186> out the spear <03591> that [is] in thy hand <03027> toward <0413> Ai <05857>; for I will give <05414> it into thine hand <03027>. And Joshua < 03091> stretched <05186> out the spear <03591> that [he had] in his hand <03027> toward <0413> the city <05892>.

19 And the ambush <0693> arose <06965> quickly < 04120> out of their place <04725>, and they ran <07323> as soon as he had stretched <05186> out his hand <03027>: and they entered <0935> into the city <05892>, and took < 03920> it, and hasted <04116> and set the city <05892> on fire <0784>.

20 And when the men <0582> of Ai <05857> looked < 06437> behind <0310> them, they saw <07200>, and, behold <02009>, the smoke <06227> of the city <05892> ascended <05927> up to heaven <08064>, and they had no <03808> power <03027> to flee <05127> this <02007> way < 02008> or that way <02008>: and the people <05971> that fled <05127> to the wilderness <04057> turned <02015> back <02015> upon the pursuers <07291>.

21 And when Joshua <03091> and all <03605> Israel <03478> saw <07200> that the ambush <0693> had taken < 03920> the city <05892>, and that the smoke <06227> of the city <05892> ascended <05927>, then they turned <07725> again <07725>, and slew <05221> the men <0582> of Ai < 05857>.

22 And the other <0428> issued <03318> out of the city <05892> against <07125> them; so they were in the midst <08432> of Israel <03478>, some <0428> on this < 02088> side, and some <0428> on that side: and they smote < 05221> them, so <05704> that they let none <01115> of them remain <08300> or escape <06412>.

23. And the king <04428> of Ai <05857> they took < 08610> alive <02416>, and brought <07126> him to Joshua < 03091>.

24 And it came <01961> to pass, when Israel <03478> had made an end <03615> of slaying <02026> all <03605> the inhabitants <03427> of Ai <05857> in the field < 07704>, in the wilderness <04057> wherein <0834> they chased <07291> them, and when they were all <03605> fallen < 05307> on the edge <06310> of the sword <02719>, until < 05704> they were consumed <08552>, that all <03605> the Israelites <03478> returned <07725> unto Ai <05857>, and smote <05221> it with the edge <06310> of the sword < 02719>.

25 And [so] it was, [that] all <03605> that fell < 05307> that day <03117>, both of men <0376> and women < 0802>, [were] twelve thousand <0505>, [even] all <03605> the men <0582> of Ai <05857>.

26 For Joshua <03091> drew <07725> not his hand < 03027> back <07725>, wherewith <0834> he stretched < 05186> out the spear <03591>, until <05704> he had utterly destroyed <02763> all <03605> the inhabitants <03427> of Ai <05857>.

27 Only <07535> the cattle <0929> and the spoil < 07998> of that city <05892> Israel <03478> took for a prey <0962> unto themselves <01992>, according unto the word < 01697> of the LORD <03068> which <0834> he commanded < 06680> Joshua <03091>.

28 And Joshua <03091> burnt <08313> Ai <05857> , and made <07760> it an heap <08510> for ever <05769>, [even] a desolation <08077> unto this <02088> day <03117> .

29 And the king <04428> of Ai <05857> he hanged < 08518> on <05921> a tree <06086> until <05704> eventide: and as soon as the sun <08121> was down <0935>, Joshua <03091> commanded <06680> that they should take < 03381> his carcase <05038> down <03381> from the tree < 06086>, and cast <07993> it at <0413> the entering < 06607> of the gate <08179> of the city <05892>, and raise <06965> thereon <05921> a great <01419> heap < 01530> of stones <068>, [that remaineth] unto this <02088> day <03117>.

30. Then <0227> Joshua <03091> built <01129> an altar <04196> unto the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478> in mount <02022> Ebal <05858>,

31 As Moses <04872> the servant <05650> of the LORD <03068> commanded <06680> the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, as it is written <03789> in the book <05612> of the law <08451> of Moses <04872>, an altar <04196> of whole <08003> stones <068>, over <05921> which < 0834> no <03808> man hath lift <05130> up [any] iron < 01270>: and they offered <05927> thereon <05921> burnt < 05930> offerings unto the LORD <03068>, and sacrificed < 02076> peace <08002> offerings.

32 And he wrote <03789> there <08033> upon the stones <068> a copy <04932> of the law <08451> of Moses <04872>, which <0834> he wrote <03789> in the presence <06440> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478>.

33 And all <03605> Israel <03478>, and their elders <02205>, and officers <07860>, and their judges <08199>, stood <05975> on this <02088> side the ark <0727> and on that side before <05048> the priests <03548> the Levites < 03881>, which bare <05375> the ark <0727> of the covenant <01285> of the LORD <03068>, as well the stranger <01616> , as he that was born <0249> among them; half <02677> of them over <0413> against <04136> mount <02022> Gerizim < 01630>, and half <02677> of them over against <04136> mount <02022> Ebal <05858>; as Moses <04872> the servant < 05650> of the LORD <03068> had commanded <06680> before < 07223>, that they should bless <01288> the people <05971> of Israel <03478>.

34 And afterward he read <07121> all <03605> the words <01697> of the law <08451>, the blessings <01293> and cursings <07045>, according to all <03605> that is written <03789> in the book <05612> of the law <08451>.

35 There was not a word <01697> of all <03605> that Moses <04872> commanded <06680>, which <0834> Joshua < 03091> read <07121> not before <05048> all <03605> the congregation <06951> of Israel <03478>, with the women < 0802>, and the little <02945> ones, and the strangers < 01616> that were conversant <01980> among <07130> them.

Joshua 9

1. And it came <01961> to pass, when all <03605> the kings <04428> which <0834> [were] on this side <05676> Jordan <03383>, in the hills <02022>, and in the valleys < 08219>, and in all <03605> the coasts <02348> of the great <01419> sea <03220> over against <04136> Lebanon < 03844>, the Hittite <02850>, and the Amorite <0567>, the Canaanite <03669>, the Perizzite <06522>, the Hivite < 02340>, and the Jebusite <02983>, heard <08085> [thereof];

2 That they gathered <06908> themselves together < 03162>, to fight <03898> with Joshua <03091> and with Israel <03478>, with one <0259> accord <06310>.

3. And when the inhabitants <03427> of Gibeon <01391> heard <08085> what Joshua <03091> had done <06213> unto Jericho <03405> and to Ai <05857>,

4 They did <06213> work <06213> wilily <06195> , and went <03212> and made as if they had been ambassadors < 06735>, and took <03947> old <01087> sacks <08242> upon their asses <02543>, and wine <03196> bottles < 04997>, old <01087>, and rent <01234>, and bound < 06887> up;

5 And old <01087> shoes <05275> and clouted < 02921> upon their feet <07272>, and old <01087> garments <08008> upon them; and all <03605> the bread <03899> of their provision <06718> was dry <03004> [and] mouldy < 05350>.

6 And they went <03212> to Joshua <03091> unto the camp <04264> at Gilgal <01537>, and said <0559> unto him, and to the men <0376> of Israel <03478>, We be come < 0935> from a far <07350> country <0776>: now <06258> therefore make <03772> ye a league <01285> with us.

7 And the men <0376> of Israel <03478> said < 0559> unto the Hivites <02340>, Peradventure <0194> ye dwell <03427> among <07130> us; and how <0349> shall we make <03772> a league <01285> with you?

8 And they said <0559> unto Joshua <03091>, We [are] thy servants <05650>. And Joshua <03091> said < 0559> unto them, Who <04310> [are] ye? and from whence < 0370> come <0935> ye?

9 And they said <0559> unto him, From a very <03966> far <07350> country <0776> thy servants <05650> are come <0935> because of the name <08034> of the LORD < 03068> thy God <0430>: for we have heard <08085> the fame <08089> of him, and all <03605> that he did <06213> in Egypt <04714>,

10 And all <03605> that he did <06213> to the two <08147> kings <04428> of the Amorites <0567>, that [were] beyond <05676> Jordan <03383>, to Sihon <05511> king <04428> of Heshbon <02809>, and to Og <05747> king <04428> of Bashan <01316>, which <0834> [was] at Ashtaroth <06252>.

11 Wherefore our elders <02205> and all <03605> the inhabitants <03427> of our country <0776> spake <0559> to us, saying <0559>, Take <03947> victuals <06720> with you for the journey <01870>, and go <03212> to meet < 07125> them, and say <0559> unto them, We [are] your servants < 05650>: therefore now <06258> make <03772> ye a league < 01285> with us.

12 This <02088> our bread <03899> we took hot < 02525> [for] our provision <06679> out of our houses <01004> on the day <03117> we came <03318> forth <03318> to go <03212> unto you; but now <06258>, behold <02009>, it is dry <03001>, and it is mouldy <05350>:

13 And these <0428> bottles <04997> of wine < 03196>, which <0834> we filled <04390>, [were] new < 02319>; and, behold <02009>, they be rent <01234>: and these <0428> our garments <08008> and our shoes <05275> are become <01086> old <01086> by reason of the very < 03966> long <07230> journey <01870>.

14 And the men <0582> took <03947> of their victuals <06718>, and asked <07592> not [counsel] at the mouth <06310> of the LORD <03068>.

15. And Joshua <03091> made <06213> peace < 07965> with them, and made <06213> a league <01285> with them, to let them live <02421>: and the princes <05387> of the congregation <05712> sware <07650> unto them.

16 And it came <01961> to pass at the end <07097> of three <07969> days <03117> after <0310> they had made <03772> a league <01285> with them, that they heard < 08085> that they [were] their neighbours <07138>, and [that] they dwelt <03427> among <07130> them.

17 And the children <01121> of Israel <03478> journeyed <05265>, and came <0935> unto their cities < 05892> on the third <07992> day <03117>. Now their cities <05892> [were] Gibeon <01391>, and Chephirah <03716>, and Beeroth <0881>, and Kirjathjearim <07157>.

18 And the children <01121> of Israel <03478> smote <05221> them not, because <03588> the princes <05387> of the congregation <05712> had sworn <07650> unto them by the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>. And all < 03605> the congregation <05712> murmured <03885> against <05921> the princes <05387>.

19 But all <03605> the princes <05387> said < 0559> unto all <03605> the congregation <05712>, We have sworn <07650> unto them by the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>: now <06258> therefore we may <03201> not touch <05060> them.

20 This <02063> we will do <06213> to them; we will even let them live <02421>, lest <03808> wrath <07110> be upon us, because <05921> of the oath <07621> which < 0834> we sware <07650> unto them.

21 And the princes <05387> said <0559> unto them, Let them live <02421>; but let them be hewers <02404> of wood <06086> and drawers <07579> of water <04325> unto all <03605> the congregation <05712>; as the princes <05387> had promised <01696> them.

22. And Joshua <03091> called <07121> for them, and he spake <01696> unto them, saying <0559>, Wherefore < 04100> have ye beguiled <07411> us, saying <0559>, We [are] very <03966> far <07350> from you; when ye dwell <03427> among <07130> us?

23 Now <06258> therefore ye [are] cursed <0779>, and there shall none <03808> of you be freed <03772> from being bondmen <05650>, and hewers <02404> of wood <06086> and drawers <07579> of water <04325> for the house < 01004> of my God <0430>.

24 And they answered <06030> Joshua <03091>, and said <0559>, Because <03588> it was certainly told < 05046> thy servants <05650>, how that the LORD <03068> thy God <0430> commanded <06680> his servant <05650> Moses <04872> to give <05414> you all <03605> the land < 0776>, and to destroy <08045> all <03605> the inhabitants <03427> of the land <0776> from before <06440> you, therefore we were sore <03966> afraid <03372> of our lives < 05315> because <06440> of you, and have done <06213> this <02088> thing <01697>.

25 And now <06258>, behold <02005>, we [are] in thine hand <03027>: as it seemeth <05869> good <02896> and right <03477> unto thee to do <06213> unto us, do < 06213>.

26 And so <03651> did <06213> he unto them, and delivered <05337> them out of the hand <03027> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, that they slew <02026> them not.

27 And Joshua <03091> made <05414> them that day <03117> hewers <02404> of wood <06086> and drawers < 07579> of water <04325> for the congregation <05712>, and for the altar <04196> of the LORD <03068>, even unto this < 02088> day <03117>, in the place <04725> which <0834> he should choose <0977>.

Joshua 10

1. Now it came <01961> to pass, when <03588> Adonizedek <0139> king <04428> of Jerusalem <03389> had heard <08085> how <03588> Joshua <03091> had taken < 03920> Ai <05857>, and had <01961> utterly destroyed < 02763> it; as he had <01961> done <06213> to Jericho < 03405> and her king <04428>, so <03651> he had <01961> done <06213> to Ai <05857> and her king <04428>; and how <03588> the inhabitants <03427> of Gibeon <01391> had <01961> made peace <07999> with Israel <03478>, and were among <07130> them;

2 That they feared <03372> greatly <03966>, because <03588> Gibeon <01391> [was] a great <01419> city < 05892>, as one <0259> of the royal <04467> cities < 05892>, and because <03588> it [was] greater <01419> than <04480> Ai <05857>, and all <03605> the men <0582> thereof [were] mighty <01368>.

3 Wherefore Adonizedek <0139> king <04428> of Jerusalem <03389> sent <07971> unto Hoham <01944> king <04428> of Hebron <02275>, and unto Piram <06502> king <04428> of Jarmuth <03412>, and unto Japhia <03309> king <04428> of Lachish <03923>, and unto Debir <01688> king <04428> of Eglon <05700>, saying <0559>,

4 Come <05927> up unto me, and help <05826> me, that we may smite <06221> Gibeon <01391>: for it hath made peace <07999> with Joshua <03091> and with the children < 01121> of Israel <03478>.

5 Therefore the five <02568> kings <04428> of the Amorites <0567>, the king <04428> of Jerusalem <03389>, the king <04428> of Hebron <02275>, the king <04428> of Jarmuth <03412>, the king <04428> of Lachish <03923>, the king <04428> of Eglon <05700>, gathered <0622> themselves together, and went <05927> up, they and all <03605> their hosts <04264>, and encamped <02583> before <05921> Gibeon <01391>, and made war <03898> against <05921> it.

6 And the men <0582> of Gibeon <01391> sent < 07971> unto Joshua <03091> to the camp <04264> to Gilgal <01537>, saying <0559>, Slack <07503> not thy hand < 03027> from thy servants <05650>; come <05927> up to us quickly <04120>, and save <03467> us, and help <05826> us: for all the kings <04428> of the Amorites <0567> that dwell <03427> in the mountains <02022> are gathered < 06908> together against <0413> us.

7. So Joshua <03091> ascended <05927> from Gilgal <01537>, he, and all <03605> the people <05971> of war <04421> with him, and all <03605> the mighty <01368> men of valour <02428>.

8 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto Joshua < 03091>, Fear <03372> them not: for I have delivered <05414> them into thine hand <03027>; there shall not a man <0376> of them stand <05975> before <06440> thee.

9 Joshua <03091> therefore came <0935> unto them suddenly <06597>, [and] went <05927> up from Gilgal < 01537> all <03605> night <03915>.

10 And the LORD <03068> discomfited <01949> them before <06440> Israel <03478>, and slew <05221> them with a great <01419> slaughter <04347> at Gibeon <01391>, and chased <07291> them along the way <01870> that goeth < 04609> up to Bethhoron <01032>, and smote <05221> them to Azekah <05825>, and unto Makkedah <04719>.

11 And it came <01961> to pass, as they fled <05127> from before <06440> Israel <03478>, [and] were in the going <04174> down <04174> to Bethhoron <01032>, that the LORD <03068> cast <07993> down great <01419> stones < 068> from heaven <08064> upon them unto Azekah <05825>, and they died <04191>: [they were] more <07227> which <0834> died <04191> with hailstones than [they] whom <0834> the children <01121> of Israel <03478> slew <02026> with the sword <02719>.

12 Then <0227> spake <01696> Joshua <03091> to the LORD <03068> in the day <03117> when the LORD < 03068> delivered <05414> up the Amorites <0567> before < 06440> the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, and he said <0559> in the sight <05869> of Israel <03478>, Sun < 08121>, stand <01826> thou still <01826> upon Gibeon < 01391>; and thou, Moon <03394>, in the valley <06010> of Ajalon <0357>.

13 And the sun <08121> stood <01826> still < 01826>, and the moon <03394> stayed <05975>, until < 05704> the people <01471> had avenged <05358> themselves upon their enemies <0341>. [Is] not this <01931> written < 03789> in the book <05612> of Jasher <03477>? So the sun <08121> stood <05975> still in the midst <02677> of heaven <08064>, and hasted <0213> not to go <0935> down about a whole <08549> day <03117>.

14 And there was no <03808> day <03117> like that before <06440> it or after <0310> it, that the LORD < 03068> hearkened <08085> unto the voice <06963> of a man <0376>: for the LORD <03068> fought <03898> for Israel <03478>.

15. And Joshua <03091> returned <07725>, and all < 03605> Israel <03478> with him, unto the camp <04264> to Gilgal <01537>.

16 But these <0428> five <02568> kings <04428> fled <05127>, and hid <02244> themselves in a cave < 04631> at Makkedah <04719>.

17 And it was told <05046> Joshua <03091>, saying <0559>, The five <02568> kings <04428> are found < 04672> hid <02244> in a cave <04631> at Makkedah < 04719>.

18 And Joshua <03091> said <0559>, Roll < 01556> great <01419> stones <068> upon the mouth < 06310> of the cave <04631>, and set <06485> men <0582> by it for to keep <08104> them:

19 And stay <05975> ye not, [but] pursue <07291> after <0310> your enemies <0341>, and smite the hindmost < 02179> of them; suffer <05414> them not to enter <0935> into <0413> their cities <05892>: for the LORD <03068> your God <0430> hath delivered <05414> them into your hand < 03027>.

20 And it came <01961> to pass, when Joshua <03091> and the children <01121> of Israel <03478> had made an end < 03615> of slaying <05221> them with a very <03966> great <01419> slaughter <04347>, till <05704> they were consumed <08552>, that the rest <08300> [which] remained < 08277> of them entered <0935> into <0413> fenced < 04013> cities <05892>.

21 And all <03605> the people <05971> returned < 07725> to the camp <04264> to Joshua <03091> at Makkedah <04719> in peace <07965>: none <03808> moved < 02782> his tongue <03956> against any of the children < 01121> of Israel <03478>.

22 Then said <0559> Joshua <03091>, Open < 06605> the mouth <06310> of the cave <04631>, and bring < 03318> out those <0428> five <02568> kings <04428> unto me out of the cave <04631>.

23 And they did <06213> so <03651>, and brought < 03318> forth <03318> those <0428> five <02568> kings <04428> unto him out of the cave <04631>, the king < 04428> of Jerusalem <03389>, the king <04428> of Hebron < 02275>, the king <04428> of Jarmuth <03412>, the king < 04428> of Lachish <03923>, [and] the king <04428> of Eglon <05700>.

24 And it came <01961> to pass, when they brought < 03318> out those <0428> kings <04428> unto Joshua < 03091>, that Joshua <03091> called <07121> for all < 03605> the men <0376> of Israel <03478>, and said < 0559> unto the captains <07101> of the men of war <04421> which went <01980> with him, Come <07126> near <07126>, put <07760> your feet <07272> upon the necks <06677> of these <0428> kings <04428>. And they came <07126> near <07126>, and put <07760> their feet <07272> upon the necks <06677> of them.

25 And Joshua <03091> said <0559> unto them, Fear <03372> not, nor <0408> be dismayed <02865>, be strong <02388> and of good courage <0553>: for thus <03602> shall the LORD <03068> do <06213> to all <03605> your enemies <0341> against whom ye fight <03898>.

26 And afterward Joshua <03091> smote <05221> them, and slew <04191> them, and hanged <08518> them on <05921> five <02568> trees <06086>: and they were hanging < 08518> upon the trees <06086> until <05704> the evening < 06153>.

27 And it came <01961> to pass at the time <06256> of the going <0935> down of the sun <08121>, [that] Joshua < 03091> commanded <06680>, and they took <03381> them down <03381> off <05921> the trees <06086>, and cast < 07993> them into <0413> the cave <04631> wherein they had been hid <02244>, and laid <07760> great <01419> stones <068> in the cave's <04631> mouth <06310>, [which remain] until <05704> this <02088> very <06106> day < 03117>.

28. And that day <03117> Joshua <03091> took < 03920> Makkedah <04719>, and smote <05221> it with the edge <06310> of the sword <02719>, and the king <04428> thereof he utterly destroyed <02763>, them, and all <03605> the souls <05315> that [were] therein; he let none <03808> remain <08300>: and he did <06213> to the king <04428> of Makkedah <04719> as he did <06213> unto the king < 04428> of Jericho <03405>.

29 Then Joshua <03091> passed <05674> from Makkedah <04719>, and all <03605> Israel <03478> with him, unto Libnah <03841>, and fought <03898> against <05973> Libnah <03841>:

30 And the LORD <03068> delivered <05414> it also <01571>, and the king <04428> thereof, into the hand < 03027> of Israel <03478>; and he smote <05221> it with the edge <06310> of the sword <02719>, and all <03605> the souls <05315> that [were] therein; he let none <03808> remain <08300> in it; but did <06213> unto the king <04428> thereof as he did <06213> unto the king <04428> of Jericho < 03405>.

31 And Joshua <03091> passed <05674> from Libnah <03841>, and all <03605> Israel <03478> with him, unto Lachish <03923>, and encamped <02583> against <05921> it, and fought <03898> against <05921> it:

32 And the LORD <03068> delivered <05414> Lachish <03923> into the hand <03027> of Israel <03478>, which took <03920> it on the second <08145> day <03117>, and smote <05221> it with the edge <06310> of the sword < 02719>, and all <03605> the souls <05315> that [were] therein, according to all <03605> that he had done <06213> to Libnah <03841>.

33 Then <0227> Horam <02036> king <04428> of Gezer <01507> came <05927> up to help <05826> Lachish <03923>; and Joshua <03091> smote <05221> him and his people <05971>, until <05704> he had left <07604> him none <01115> remaining <08300>.

34 And from Lachish <03923> Joshua <03091> passed <05674> unto Eglon <05700>, and all <03605> Israel < 03478> with him; and they encamped <02583> against <05921> it, and fought <03898> against <05921> it:

35 And they took <03920> it on that day <03117>, and smote <05221> it with the edge <06310> of the sword < 02719>, and all <03605> the souls <05315> that [were] therein he utterly destroyed <02763> that day <03117>, according to all <03605> that he had done <06213> to Lachish <03923>.

36 And Joshua <03091> went <05927> up from Eglon <05700>, and all <03605> Israel <03478> with him, unto Hebron <02275>; and they fought <03898> against <05921> it:

37 And they took <03920> it, and smote <05221> it with the edge <06310> of the sword <02719>, and the king < 04428> thereof, and all <03605> the cities <05892> thereof, and all <03605> the souls <05315> that [were] therein; he left <07604> none <03808> remaining <08300>, according to all <03605> that he had done <06213> to Eglon <05700>; but destroyed <02763> it utterly, and all <03605> the souls < 05315> that [were] therein.

38 And Joshua <03091> returned <07725>, and all < 03605> Israel <03478> with him, to Debir <01688>; and fought <03898> against <05921> it:

39 And he took <03920> it, and the king <04428> thereof, and all <03605> the cities <05892> thereof; and they smote <05221> them with the edge <06310> of the sword < 02719>, and utterly destroyed <02763> all <03605> the souls <05315> that [were] therein; he left <07604> none <03808> remaining <08300>: as he had done <06213> to Hebron < 02275>, so <03651> he did <06213> to Debir <01688>, and to the king <04428> thereof; as he had done <06213> also to Libnah <03841>, and to her king <04428>.

40 So Joshua <03091> smote <05221> all <03605> the country <0776> of the hills <02022>, and of the south < 05045>, and of the vale <08219>, and of the springs <0794>, and all <03605> their kings <04428>: he left <07604> none <03808> remaining <08300>, but utterly destroyed < 02763> all <03605> that breathed <05397>, as the LORD < 03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478> commanded <06680>.

41 And Joshua <03091> smote <05221> them from Kadeshbarnea <06947> even unto Gaza <05804>, and all < 03605> the country <0776> of Goshen <01657>, even unto Gibeon <01391>.

42 And all <03605> these <0428> kings <04428> and their land <0776> did Joshua <03091> take <03920> at one <0259> time <06471>, because <03588> the LORD < 03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478> fought <03898> for Israel <03478>.

43 And Joshua <03091> returned <07725>, and all < 03605> Israel <03478> with him, unto the camp <04264> to Gilgal <01537>.

Joshua 11

1. And it came <01961> to pass, when Jabin <02985> king <04428> of Hazor <02674> had heard <08085> [those things], that he sent <07971> to Jobab <03103> king < 04428> of Madon <04068>, and to the king <04428> of Shimron <08110>, and to the king <04428> of Achshaph <0407>,

2 And to the kings <04428> that [were] on the north < 06828> of the mountains <02022>, and of the plains <06160> south <05045> of Chinneroth <03672>, and in the valley < 08219>, and in the borders <05299> of Dor <01756> on the west <03220>,

3 [And to] the Canaanite <03669> on the east <04217> and on the west <03220>, and [to] the Amorite <0567>, and the Hittite <02850>, and the Perizzite <06522>, and the Jebusite <02983> in the mountains <02022>, and [to] the Hivite < 02340> under <08478> Hermon <02768> in the land <0776> of Mizpeh <04709>.

4 And they went <03318> out, they and all <03605> their hosts <04264> with them, much <07227> people < 05971>, even as the sand <02344> that [is] upon the sea < 03220> shore <08193> in multitude <07230>, with horses < 05483> and chariots <07393> very <03966> many <07227>.

5 And when all <03605> these <0428> kings < 04428> were met <03259> together <03162>, they came < 0935> and pitched <02583> together <03162> at <0413> the waters <04325> of Merom <04792>, to fight <03898> against <05973> Israel <03478>.

6 And the LORD <03068> said <0559> unto Joshua < 03091>, Be not afraid <03372> because <06440> of them: for to morrow <04279> about this <02063> time <06256> will I deliver <05414> them up all <03605> slain <02491> before <06440> Israel <03478>: thou shalt hough <06131> their horses <05483>, and burn <08313> their chariots <04818> with fire <0784>.

7 So Joshua <03091> came <0935>, and all < 03605> the people <05971> of war <04421> with him, against <05921> them by the waters <04325> of Merom <04792> suddenly <06597>; and they fell <05307> upon them.

8 And the LORD <03068> delivered <05414> them into the hand <03027> of Israel <03478>, who smote <05221> them, and chased <07291> them unto great <07227> Zidon < 06721>, and unto Misrephothmaim <04956>, and unto the valley < 01237> of Mizpeh <04708> eastward <04217>; and they smote <05221> them, until <05704> they left <07604> them none <01115> remaining <08300>.

9 And Joshua <03091> did <06213> unto them as the LORD <03068> bade <0559> him: he houghed <06131> their horses <05483>, and burnt <08313> their chariots <04818> with fire <0784>.

10. And Joshua <03091> at that time <06256> turned <07725> back <07725>, and took <03920> Hazor < 02674>, and smote <05221> the king <04428> thereof with the sword <02719>: for Hazor <02674> beforetime <06440> was the head <07218> of all <03605> those <0428> kingdoms <04467>.

11 And they smote <05221> all <03605> the souls < 05315> that [were] therein with the edge <06310> of the sword < 02719>, utterly destroying <02763> [them]: there was not any < 03605> left <03498> to breathe <05397>: and he burnt < 08313> Hazor <02674> with fire <0784>.

12 And all <03605> the cities <05892> of those < 0428> kings <04428>, and all <03605> the kings <04428> of them, did Joshua <03091> take <03920>, and smote < 05221> them with the edge <06310> of the sword <02719>, [and] he utterly destroyed <02763> them, as Moses <04872> the servant <05650> of the LORD <03068> commanded <06680>.

13 But [as for] the cities <05892> that stood < 05975> still in their strength <08510>, Israel <03478> burned <08313> none <03808> of them, save <02108> Hazor <02674> only <0905>; [that] did Joshua <03091> burn < 08313>.

14 And all <03605> the spoil <07998> of these < 0428> cities <05892>, and the cattle <0929>, the children <01121> of Israel <03478> took for a prey <0962> unto themselves <01992>; but every <03605> man <0120> they smote <05221> with the edge <06310> of the sword <02719>, until <05704> they had destroyed <08045> them, neither < 03808> left <07604> they any <03605> to breathe < 05397>.

15. As the LORD <03068> commanded <06680> Moses < 04872> his servant <05650>, so <03651> did <06213> Moses <04872> command <06680> Joshua <03091>, and so < 03651> did <06213> Joshua <03091>; he left <05493> nothing undone <05493> of all <03605> that the LORD < 03068> commanded <06680> Moses <04872>.

16 So Joshua <03091> took <03947> all <03605> that land <0776>, the hills <02022>, and all <03605> the south <05045> country, and all <03605> the land <0776> of Goshen <01657>, and the valley <08219>, and the plain < 06160>, and the mountain <02022> of Israel <03478>, and the valley <08219> of the same;

17 [Even] from the mount <02022> Halak <02510>, that goeth <05927> up to Seir <08165>, even unto Baalgad < 01171> in the valley <01237> of Lebanon <03844> under < 08478> mount <02022> Hermon <02768>: and all <03605> their kings <04428> he took <03920>, and smote <05221> them, and slew <04191> them.

18 Joshua <03091> made <06213> war <04421> a long <07227> time <03117> with all <03605> those < 0428> kings <04428>.

19 There was not a city <05892> that made peace < 07999> with the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, save <01115> the Hivites <02340> the inhabitants <03427> of Gibeon <01391>: all <03605> [other] they took <03947> in battle <04421>.

20 For it was of the LORD <03068> to harden <02388> their hearts <03820>, that they should come <07122> against <07125> Israel <03478> in battle <04421>, that he might destroy <02763> them utterly, [and] that they might have < 01961> no <01115> favour <08467>, but that he might destroy <08045> them, as the LORD <03068> commanded <06680> Moses <04872>.

21 And at that time <06256> came <0935> Joshua < 03091>, and cut <03772> off the Anakims <06062> from the mountains <02022>, from Hebron <02275>, from Debir < 01688>, from Anab <06024>, and from all <03605> the mountains <02022> of Judah <03063>, and from all <03605> the mountains <02022> of Israel <03478>: Joshua <03091> destroyed <02763> them utterly with their cities <05892>.

22 There was none <03808> of the Anakims <06062> left <03498> in the land <0776> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478>: only <07535> in Gaza <05804>, in Gath <01661>, and in Ashdod <0795>, there remained <07604>.

23 So Joshua <03091> took <03947> the whole land <0776>, according to all <03605> that the LORD <03068> said <01696> unto Moses <04872>; and Joshua <03091> gave <05414> it for an inheritance <05159> unto Israel <03478> according to their divisions <04256> by their tribes <07626>. And the land <0776> rested <08252> from war <04421>.

Joshua 12

1. Now these <0428> [are] the kings <04428> of the land <0776>, which <0834> the children <01121> of Israel <03478> smote <05221>, and possessed <03423> their land <0776> on the other <05676> side <05676> Jordan < 03383> toward the rising <04217> of the sun <08121>, from the river <05158> Arnon <0769> unto mount <02022> Hermon, and all <03605> the plain <06160> on the east <04217>:

2 Sihon <05511> king <04428> of the Amorites < 0567>, who dwelt <03427> in Heshbon <02809>, [and] ruled <04910> from Aroer <06177>, which <0834> [is] upon the bank <08193> of the river <05158> Arnon <0769>, and from the middle <08432> of the river <05158>, and from half < 02677> Gilead <01568>, even unto the river <05158> Jabbok <02999>, [which is] the border <01366> of the children < 01121> of Ammon <05983>;

3 And from the plain <06160> to the sea <03220> of Chinneroth <03672> on the east <04217>, and unto the sea < 03220> of the plain <06160>, [even] the salt <04417> sea <03220> on the east <04217>, the way <01870> to Bethjeshimoth <01020>; and from the south <08486>, under < 08478> Ashdothpisgah:

4 And the coast <01366> of Og <05747> king < 04428> of Bashan <01316>, [which was] of the remnant <03499> of the giants <07497>, that dwelt <03427> at Ashtaroth < 06252> and at Edrei <0154>,

5 And reigned <04910> in mount <02022> Hermon < 02768>, and in Salcah <05548>, and in all <03605> Bashan <01316>, unto the border <01366> of the Geshurites < 01651> and the Maachathites <04602>, and half <02677> Gilead <01568>, the border <01366> of Sihon <05511> king <04428> of Heshbon <02809>.

6 Them did Moses <04872> the servant <05650> of the LORD <03068> and the children <01121> of Israel <03478> smite <05221>: and Moses <04872> the servant <05650> of the LORD <03068> gave <05414> it [for] a possession < 03425> unto the Reubenites <07206>, and the Gadites <01425>, and the half <02677> tribe <07626> of Manasseh <04519>.

7. And these <0428> [are] the kings <04428> of the country <0776> which <0834> Joshua <03091> and the children <01121> of Israel <03478> smote <05221> on this side <05676> Jordan <03383> on the west <03220>, from Baalgad <01171> in the valley <01237> of Lebanon <03844> even unto the mount <02022> Halak <02510>, that goeth < 05927> up to Seir <08165>; which Joshua <03091> gave < 05414> unto the tribes <07626> of Israel <03478> [for] a possession <03425> according to their divisions <04256>;

Joshua 13

1. Now Joshua <03091> was old <02204> [and] stricken <0935> in years <08141>; and the LORD <03068> said < 0559> unto him, Thou art old <02204> [and] stricken <0935> in years <08141>, and there remaineth <07604> yet very < 03966> much <07235> land <0776> to be possessed < 03423>.

2 This <02063> [is] the land <0776> that yet remaineth <07604>: all <03605> the borders <01552> of the Philistines <06430>, and all <03605> Geshuri <01651>,

3 From Sihor <07883>, which <0834> [is] before Egypt <04714>, even unto the borders <01366> of Ekron < 06138> northward <06828>, [which] is counted <02803> to the Canaanite <03669>: five <02568> lords <05633> of the Philistines <06430>; the Gazathites <05841>, and the Ashdothites <0796>, the Eshkalonites <0832>, the Gittites < 01663>, and the Ekronites <06139>; also the Avites <05757>:

4 From the south <08486>, all <03605> the land < 0776> of the Canaanites <03669>, and Mearah <04632> that [is] beside the Sidonians <06722>, unto Aphek <0663>, to the borders <01366> of the Amorites <0567>:

5 And the land <0776> of the Giblites <01382>, and all <03605> Lebanon <03844>, toward the sunrising, from Baalgad <01171> under <08478> mount <02022> Hermon < 02768> unto the entering <0935> into Hamath <02574>.

6 All <03605> the inhabitants <03427> of the hill <02022> country from Lebanon <03844> unto Misrephothmaim < 04956>, [and] all <03605> the Sidonians <06722>, them will I drive <03423> out from before <06440> the children < 01121> of Israel <03478>: only <07535> divide <05307> thou it by lot unto the Israelites <03478> for an inheritance < 05159>, as I have commanded <06680> thee.

7. Now <06258> therefore divide <02505> this < 02063> land <0776> for an inheritance <05159> unto the nine <08672> tribes <07626>, and the half <02677> tribe < 07626> of Manasseh <04519>,

8 With whom <05973> the Reubenites <07206> and the Gadites <01425> have received <03947> their inheritance < 05159>, which <0834> Moses <04872> gave <05414> them, beyond <05676> Jordan <03383> eastward <04217>, [even] as Moses <04872> the servant <05650> of the LORD <03068> gave <05414> them;

9 From Aroer <06177>, that [is] upon the bank < 08193> of the river <05158> Arnon <0769>, and the city < 05892> that [is] in the midst <08432> of the river <05158>, and all <03605> the plain <04334> of Medeba <04311> unto Dibon <01769>;

10 And all <03605> the cities <05892> of Sihon < 05511> king <04428> of the Amorites <0567>, which < 0834> reigned <04427> in Heshbon <02809>, unto the border <01366> of the children <01121> of Ammon <05983>;

11 And Gilead <01568>, and the border <01366> of the Geshurites <01651> and Maachathites <04602>, and all < 03605> mount <02022> Hermon <02768>, and all <03605> Bashan <01316> unto Salcah <05548>;

12 All <03605> the kingdom <04468> of Og < 05747> in Bashan <01316>, which <0834> reigned <04427> in Ashtaroth <06252> and in Edrei <0154>, who <01931> remained <07604> of the remnant <03499> of the giants < 07497>: for these did Moses <04872> smite <05221>, and cast <03423> them out.

13 Nevertheless the children <01121> of Israel < 03478> expelled <03423> not the Geshurites <01651>, nor < 0408> the Maachathites <04602>: but the Geshurites <01651> and the Maachathites <04602> dwell <03427> among <07130> the Israelites <03478> until <05704> this <02088> day <03117>.

14 Only <07535> unto the tribe <07626> of Levi < 03878> he gave <05414> none <03808> inheritance < 05159>; the sacrifices of the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478> made by fire [are] their inheritance <05159>, as he said <01696> unto them.

15 And Moses <04872> gave <05414> unto the tribe <04294> of the children <01121> of Reuben <07205> [inheritance] according to their families <04940>.

16 And their coast <01366> was from Aroer <06177>, that [is] on <05921> the bank <08193> of the river < 05158> Arnon <0769>, and the city <05892> that [is] in the midst <08432> of the river <05158>, and all <03605> the plain <04334> by Medeba <04311>;

17 Heshbon <02809>, and all <03605> her cities < 05892> that [are] in the plain <04334>; Dibon <01769>, and Bamothbaal <01120>, and Bethbaalmeon <01010>,

18 And Jahazah <03096>, and Kedemoth <06932>, and Mephaath <04158>,

19 And Kirjathaim <07156>, and Sibmah <07643>, and Zarethshahar in the mount <02022> of the valley <06010>,

20 And Bethpeor <01047>, and Ashdothpisgah, and Bethjeshimoth <01020>,

21 And all <03605> the cities <05892> of the plain <04334>, and all <03605> the kingdom <04468> of Sihon <05511> king <04428> of the Amorites <0567>, which < 0834> reigned <04427> in Heshbon <02809>, whom <0834> Moses <04872> smote <05221> with the princes <05387> of Midian <04080>, Evi <0189>, and Rekem <07552>, and Zur <06698>, and Hur <02354>, and Reba <07254>, [which were] dukes <05257> of Sihon <05511>, dwelling <03427> in the country <0776>.

22 Balaam <01109> also the son <01121> of Beor < 01160>, the soothsayer <07080>, did the children <01121> of Israel <03478> slay <02026> with the sword <02719> among <0413> them that were slain <02491> by them.

23 And the border <01366> of the children <01121> of Reuben <07205> was Jordan <03383>, and the border < 01366> [thereof]. This <02063> [was] the inheritance <05159> of the children <01121> of Reuben <07205> after their families <04940>, the cities <05892> and the villages < 02691> thereof.

24 And Moses <04872> gave <05414> [inheritance] unto the tribe <04294> of Gad <01410>, [even] unto the children <01121> of Gad <01410> according to their families <04940>.

25 And their coast <01366> was Jazer <03270>, and all <03605> the cities <05892> of Gilead <01568>, and half <02677> the land <0776> of the children <01121> of Ammon <05983>, unto Aroer <06177> that [is] before Rabbah < 07237>;

26 And from Heshbon <02809> unto Ramathmizpeh < 07434>, and Betonim <0993>; and from Mahanaim <04266> unto the border <01366> of Debir <01688>;

27 And in the valley <06010>, Betharam <01027>, and Bethnimrah <01039>, and Succoth <05523>, and Zaphon, the rest <03499> of the kingdom <04468> of Sihon <05511> king < 04428> of Heshbon <02809>, Jordan <03383> and [his] border <01366>, [even] unto the edge <07097> of the sea <03220> of Chinnereth <03672> on the other <05676> side <05676> Jordan <03383> eastward <04217>.

28 This <02063> [is] the inheritance <05159> of the children <01121> of Gad <01410> after their families < 04940>, the cities <05892>, and their villages <02691>.

29 And Moses <04872> gave <05414> [inheritance] unto the half <02677> tribe <07626> of Manasseh <04519>: and [this] was [the possession] of the half <02677> tribe < 04294> of the children <01121> of Manasseh <04519> by their families <04940>.

30 And their coast <01366> was from Mahanaim <04266> , all <03605> Bashan <01316>, all <03605> the kingdom <04468> of Og <05747> king <04428> of Bashan < 01316>, and all <03605> the towns <02333> of Jair < 02971>, which <0834> [are] in Bashan <01316>, threescore <08346> cities <05892>:

31 And half <02677> Gilead <01568>, and Ashtaroth <06252>, and Edrei <0154>, cities <05892> of the kingdom <04468> of Og <05747> in Bashan <01316>, [were pertaining] unto the children <01121> of Machir <04353> the son <01121> of Manasseh <04519>, [even] to the one half < 02677> of the children <01121> of Machir <04353> by their families <04940>.

32 These <0428> [are the countries] which <0834> Moses <04872> did distribute <05157> for inheritance < 05157> in the plains <06160> of Moab <04124>, on the other <05676> side <05676> Jordan <03383>, by Jericho < 03405>, eastward <04217>.

33 But unto the tribe <07626> of Levi <03878> Moses <04872> gave <05414> not [any <03605>] inheritance < 05159>: the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478> [was] their inheritance <05159>, as he said <01696> unto them.

Joshua 14

1. And these <0428> [are the countries] which <0834> the children <01121> of Israel <03478> inherited <05157> in the land <0776> of Canaan <03667>, which Eleazar < 0499> the priest <03548>, and Joshua <03091> the son < 01121> of Nun <05126>, and the heads <07218> of the fathers <01> of the tribes <04294> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, distributed <05157> for inheritance < 05157> to them.

2 By lot <01486> [was] their inheritance <05159>, as the LORD <03068> commanded <06680> by the hand <03027> of Moses <04872>, for the nine <08672> tribes <04294>, and [for] the half <02677> tribe <04294>.

3 For Moses <04872> had given <05414> the inheritance <05159> of two <08147> tribes <04294> and an half <02677> tribe <04294> on the other <05676> side < 05676> Jordan <03383>: but unto the Levites <03881> he gave <05414> none <03808> inheritance <05159> among < 08432> them.

4 For the children <01121> of Joseph <03130> were two <08147> tribes <04294>, Manasseh <04519> and Ephraim <0669>: therefore they gave <05414> no <03808> part < 02506> unto the Levites <03881> in the land <0776>, save cities <05892> to dwell <03427> [in], with their suburbs < 04054> for their cattle <04735> and for their substance < 07075>.

5 As the LORD <03068> commanded <06680> Moses < 04872>, so <03651> the children <01121> of Israel < 03478> did <06213>, and they divided <02505> the land < 0776>.

6. Then the children <01121> of Judah <03063> came <05066> unto Joshua <03091> in Gilgal <01537>: and Caleb <03612> the son <01121> of Jephunneh <03312> the Kenezite <07074> said <0559> unto him, Thou knowest < 03045> the thing <01697> that the LORD <03068> said < 01696> unto Moses <04872> the man <0376> of God <0430> concerning me and thee in Kadeshbarnea <06947>.

7 Forty <0705> years <08141> old <01121> [was] I when Moses <04872> the servant <05650> of the LORD < 03068> sent <07971> me from Kadeshbarnea <06947> to espy <07270> out the land <0776>; and I brought <07725> him word <01697> again <07725> as [it was] in mine heart < 03824>.

8 Nevertheless my brethren <0251> that went <05927> up with me made the heart <03820> of the people <05971> melt <04529>: but I wholly <04390> followed <0310> the LORD <03068> my God <0430>.

9 And Moses <04872> sware <07650> on that day < 03117>, saying <0559>, Surely <0518> the land <0776> whereon <0834> thy feet <07272> have trodden <01869> shall be thine inheritance <05159>, and thy children's <01121> for ever <05769>, because <03588> thou hast wholly < 04390> followed <0310> the LORD <03068> my God <0430>.

10 And now <06258>, behold <02009>, the LORD < 03068> hath kept me alive <02421>, as he said <01696>, these <02088> forty <0705> and five <02568> years < 08141>, even since <0227> the LORD <03068> spake < 01696> this <02088> word <01697> unto Moses <04872>, while <0834> [the children of] Israel <03478> wandered < 01980> in the wilderness <04057>: and now <06258>, lo < 02009>, I [am] this day <03117> fourscore <08084> and five <02568> years <08141> old <01121>.

11 As yet <05750> I [am as] strong <02389> this day <03117> as [I was] in the day <03117> that Moses <04872> sent <07971> me: as my strength <03581> [was] then <0227> , even so [is] my strength <03581> now <06258>, for war < 04421>, both to go <03318> out, and to come <0935> in.

12 Now <06258> therefore give <05414> me this < 02088> mountain <02022>, whereof <0834> the LORD < 03068> spake <01696> in that day <03117>; for thou heardest <08085> in that day <03117> how <03588> the Anakims < 06062> [were] there <08033>, and [that] the cities <05892> [were] great <01419> [and] fenced <01219>: if <0194> so be the LORD <03068> [will be] with me, then I shall be able to drive <03423> them out, as the LORD <03068> said <01696>.

13 And Joshua <03091> blessed <01288> him, and gave <05414> unto Caleb <03612> the son <01121> of Jephunneh <03312> Hebron <02275> for an inheritance <05159>.

14 Hebron <02275> therefore became <01961> the inheritance <05159> of Caleb <03612> the son <01121> of Jephunneh <03312> the Kenezite <07074> unto this <02088> day <03117>, because <03282> that he wholly <04390> followed <0310> the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>.

15 And the name <08034> of Hebron <02275> before <06440> [was] Kirjatharba <07153>; [which Arba was] a great <01419> man <0120> among the Anakims <06062>. And the land <0776> had rest <08252> from war <04421>.

Joshua 15

1. [This] then was the lot <01486> of the tribe < 04294> of the children <01121> of Judah <03063> by their families <04940>; [even] to the border <01366> of Edom < 0123> the wilderness <04057> of Zin <06790> southward < 08486> [was] the uttermost <07097> part of the south <05045> coast <01366>.

2 And their south <05045> border <01366> was from the shore <07097> of the salt <04417> sea <03220>, from the bay <03956> that looketh <06437> southward <05045>:

3 And it went <03318> out to the south <05045> side to Maalehacrabbim <04610>, and passed <05674> along to Zin < 06790>, and ascended <05927> up on the south <05045> side unto Kadeshbarnea <06947>, and passed <05674> along to Hezron <02696>, and went <05927> up to Adar <0146>, and fetched a compass <05437> to Karkaa <07173>:

4 [From thence] it passed <05674> toward Azmon < 06111>, and went <03318> out unto the river <05158> of Egypt <04714>; and the goings <08444> out of that coast < 01366> were at the sea <03220>: this <02088> shall be your south <05045> coast <01366>.

7 And the border <01366> went <05927> up toward Debir <01688> from the valley <06010> of Achor <05911>, and so northward <06828>, looking <06437> toward <0413> Gilgal <01537>, that [is] before <05227> the going < 04608> up to Adummim <0131>, which <0834> [is] on the south <05045> side of the river <05158>: and the border <01366> passed <05674> toward <0413> the waters <04325> of Enshemesh <05885>, and the goings <08444> out thereof were at <0413> Enrogel <05883>:

8 And the border <01366> went <05927> up by the valley <01516> of the son <01121> of Hinnom <02011> unto the south <05045> side <03802> of the Jebusite <02983>; the same <01931> [is] Jerusalem <03389>: and the border < 01366> went <05927> up to the top <07218> of the mountain <02022> that [lieth] before the valley <01516> of Hinnom < 02011> westward <03220>, which <0834> [is] at the end < 07097> of the valley <06010> of the giants <07497> northward <06828>:

9 And the border <01366> was drawn <08388> from the top <07218> of the hill <02022> unto the fountain <04599> of the water <04325> of Nephtoah <05318>, and went < 03318> out to the cities <05892> of mount <02022> Ephron <06085>; and the border <01366> was drawn <08388> to Baalah <01173>, which <01958> [is] Kirjathjearim <07157>:

10 And the border <01366> compassed <05437> from Baalah <01173> westward <03220> unto mount <02022> Seir <08165>, and passed <05674> along unto the side <03802> of mount <02022> Jearim <03297>, which <0834> [is] Chesalon <03693>, on the north <06828> side, and went < 03381> down <03381> to Bethshemesh <01053>, and passed < 05674> on to Timnah <08553>:

11 And the border <01366> went <03318> out unto the side <03802> of Ekron <06138> northward <06828>: and the border <01366> was drawn <08388> to Shicron <07942>, and passed <05674> along to mount <02022> Baalah <01173>, and went <03318> out unto Jabneel <02995>; and the goings < 08444> out of the border <01366> were at the sea <03220>.

12 And the west <03220> border <01366> [was] to the great <01419> sea <03220>, and the coast <01366> [thereof]. This <02088> [is] the coast <01366> of the children <01121> of Judah <03063> round <05439> about according to their families <04940>.

13. And unto Caleb <03612> the son <01121> of Jephunneh <03312> he gave <05414> a part <02506> among <08432> the children <01121> of Judah <03063>, according <0413> to the commandment <06310> of the LORD <03068> to Joshua <03091>, [even] the city <07151> of Arba <0704> the father <01> of Anak <06061>, which <01958> [city is] Hebron <02275>.

14 And Caleb <03612> drove <03423> thence < 08033> the three <07969> sons <01121> of Anak <06061>, Sheshai <08344>, and Ahiman <0289>, and Talmai <08526>, the children <03211> of Anak <06061>.

Joshua 16

9 And the separate <03995> cities <05892> for the children <01121> of Ephraim <0669> [were] among <08432> the inheritance <05159> of the children <01121> of Manasseh <04519>, all <03605> the cities <05892> with their villages <02691>.

10 And they drave <03423> not out the Canaanites < 03669> that dwelt <03427> in Gezer <01507>: but the Canaanites <03669> dwell <03427> among <07130> the Ephraimites <0669> unto this <02088> day <03117>, and serve <05647> under tribute <04522>.

Joshua 17

1. There was also a lot <01486> for the tribe <04294> of Manasseh <04519>; for he [was] the firstborn <01060> of Joseph <03130>; [to wit], for Machir <04353> the firstborn < 01060> of Manasseh <04519>, the father <01> of Gilead < 01568>: because <03588> he was a man <0376> of war < 04421>, therefore he had <01961> Gilead <01568> and Bashan <01316>.

7. And the coast <01366> of Manasseh <04519> was from Asher <0836> to Michmethah <04366>, that [lieth] before Shechem <07927>; and the border <01366> went <01980> along on <0413> the right <03225> hand <03225> unto the inhabitants <03427> of Entappuah <05887>.

8 [Now] Manasseh <04519> had <01961> the land < 0776> of Tappuah <08599>: but Tappuah <08599> on < 0413> the border <01366> of Manasseh <04519> [belonged] to the children <01121> of Ephraim <0669>;

9 And the coast <01366> descended <03381> unto the river <05158> Kanah <07071>, southward <05045> of the river <05158>: these <0428> cities <05892> of Ephraim <0669> [are] among <08432> the cities <05892> of Manasseh <04519>: the coast <01366> of Manasseh <04519> also [was] on the north <06828> side of the river <05158>, and the outgoings <08444> of it were at the sea <03220>:

10 Southward <05045> [it was] Ephraim's <0669>, and northward <06828> [it was] Manasseh's <04519>, and the sea < 03220> is his border <01366>; and they met <06293> together in Asher <0836> on the north <06828>, and in Issachar < 03485> on the east <04217>.

11 And Manasseh <04519> had <01961> in Issachar < 03485> and in Asher <0836> Bethshean <01052> and her towns <01323>, and Ibleam <02991> and her towns <01323>, and the inhabitants <03427> of Dor <01756> and her towns < 01323>, and the inhabitants <03427> of Endor <05874> and her towns <01323>, and the inhabitants <03427> of Taanach < 08590> and her towns <01323>, and the inhabitants <03427> of Megiddo <04023> and her towns <01323>, [even] three < 07969> countries <05316>.

12 Yet the children <01121> of Manasseh <04519> could <03201> not drive <03423> out [the inhabitants of] those <0428> cities <05892>; but the Canaanites <03669> would <02974> dwell <03427> in that land <0776>.

13 Yet it came <01961> to pass, when <03588> the children <01121> of Israel <03478> were waxen strong < 02388>, that they put <05414> the Canaanites <03669> to tribute <04522>; but did not utterly drive <03423> them out.

14. And the children <01121> of Joseph <03130> spake <01696> unto Joshua <03091>, saying <0559>, Why < 04069> hast thou given <05414> me [but] one <0259> lot < 01486> and one <0259> portion <02256> to inherit < 05159>, seeing I [am] a great <07227> people <05971>, forasmuch <05704> as the LORD <03068> hath blessed < 01288> me hitherto?

15 And Joshua <03091> answered <0559> them, If < 0518> thou [be] a great <07227> people <05971>, [then] get <05927> thee up to the wood <03293> [country], and cut < 01254> down for thyself there <08033> in the land <0776> of the Perizzites <06522> and of the giants <07497>, if < 03588> mount <02022> Ephraim <0669> be too narrow < 0213> for thee.

16 And the children <01121> of Joseph <03130> said <0559>, The hill <02022> is not enough <04672> for us: and all <03605> the Canaanites <03669> that dwell <03427> in the land <0776> of the valley <06010> have chariots < 07393> of iron <01270>, [both they] who <0834> [are] of Bethshean <01052> and her towns <01323>, and [they] who < 0834> [are] of the valley <06010> of Jezreel <03157>.

17 And Joshua <03091> spake <0559> unto the house <01004> of Joseph <03130>, [even] to Ephraim <0669> and to Manasseh <04519>, saying <0559>, Thou [art] a great < 07227> people <05971>, and hast great <01419> power < 03581>: thou shalt not have <01961> one <0259> lot < 01486> [only]:

18 But the mountain <02022> shall be thine; for it [is] a wood <03293>, and thou shalt cut <01254> it down: and the outgoings <08444> of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive < 03423> out the Canaanites <03669>, though <03588> they have iron <01270> chariots <07393>, [and] though <03588> they [be] strong <02389>.

Joshua 18

1. And the whole <03605> congregation <05712> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478> assembled <06950> together at Shiloh <07887>, and set <07931> up the tabernacle <0168> of the congregation <04150> there <08033>. And the land <0776> was subdued <03533> before <06440> them.

2. And there remained <03498> among the children < 01121> of Israel <03478> seven <07651> tribes <07626>, which <0834> had not yet received <02505> their inheritance <05159>.

3 And Joshua <03091> said <0559> unto the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, How <05704> long <05704> [are] ye slack <07503> to go <0935> to possess <03423> the land <0776>, which <0834> the LORD <03068> God < 0430> of your fathers <01> hath given <05414> you?

4 Give <03051> out from among you three <07969> men <0582> for [each] tribe <07626>: and I will send <07971> them, and they shall rise <06965>, and go <01980> through the land <0776>, and describe <03789> it according <06310> to the inheritance <05159> of them; and they shall come <0935> [again] to me.

5 And they shall divide <02505> it into seven < 07651> parts <02506>: Judah <03063> shall abide < 05975> in their coast <01366> on the south <05045>, and the house <01004> of Joseph <03130> shall abide <05975> in their coasts <01366> on the north <06828>.

6 Ye shall therefore describe <03789> the land < 0776> [into] seven <07651> parts <02506>, and bring < 0935> [the description] hither to me, that I may cast <03384> lots <01486> for you here <06311> before <06440> the LORD <03068> our God <0430>.

7 But the Levites <03881> have no <03808> part < 02506> among <07130> you; for the priesthood <03550> of the LORD <03068> [is] their inheritance <05159>: and Gad < 01410>, and Reuben <07205>, and half <02677> the tribe < 07626> of Manasseh <04519>, have <01961> received < 03947> their inheritance <05159> beyond <05676> Jordan < 03383> on the east <04217>, which <0834> Moses <04872> the servant <05650> of the LORD <03068> gave <05414> them.

8 And the men <0582> arose <06965>, and went < 03212> away: and Joshua <03091> charged <06680> them that went <01980> to describe <03789> the land <0776>, saying <0559>, Go <03212> and walk <01980> through the land < 0776>, and describe <03789> it, and come <07725> again < 07725> to me, that I may here <06311> cast <07993> lots < 01486> for you before <06440> the LORD <03068> in Shiloh <07887>.

9 And the men <0582> went <03212> and passed < 05674> through the land <0776>, and described <03789> it by cities <05892> into seven <07651> parts <02506> in a book <05612>, and came <0935> [again] to Joshua <03091> to the host <04264> at Shiloh <07887>.

10 And Joshua <03091> cast <07993> lots < 01486> for them in Shiloh <07887> before <06440> the LORD <03068>: and there <08033> Joshua <03091> divided < 02505> the land <0776> unto the children <01121> of Israel <03478> according to their divisions <04256>.

11. And the lot <01486> of the tribe <04294> of the children <01121> of Benjamin <01144> came <05927> up according to their families <04940>: and the coast <01366> of their lot <01486> came <03318> forth <03318> between < 0996> the children <01121> of Judah <03063> and the children <01121> of Joseph <03130>.

12 And their border <01366> on the north <06828> side <06285> was from Jordan <03383>; and the border < 01366> went <05927> up to the side <03802> of Jericho < 03405> on the north <06828> side, and went <05927> up through the mountains <02022> westward <03220>; and the goings <08444> out thereof were at the wilderness <04057> of Bethaven <01007>.

13 And the border <01366> went <05674> over < 05674> from thence <08033> toward Luz <03870>, to the side <03802> of Luz <03870>, which <01958> [is] Bethel < 01008>, southward <05045>; and the border <01366> descended <03381> to Atarothadar <05853>, near <05921> the hill <02022> that [lieth] on the south <05045> side of the nether <08481> Bethhoron <01032>.

14 And the border <01366> was drawn <08388> [thence], and compassed <05437> the corner <06285> of the sea <03220> southward <05045>, from the hill <02022> that [lieth] before Bethhoron <01032> southward <05045>; and the goings <08444> out thereof were at <0413> Kirjathbaal < 07154>, which <01958> [is] Kirjathjearim <07157>, a city <05892> of the children <01121> of Judah <03063>: this <02063> [was] the west <03220> quarter <06285>.

15 And the south <05045> quarter <06285> [was] from the end <07097> of Kirjathjearim <07157>, and the border < 01366> went <03318> out on the west <03220>, and went < 03318> out to the well <04599> of waters <04325> of Nephtoah <05318>:

16 And the border <01366> came <03381> down < 03381> to the end <07097> of the mountain <02022> that [lieth] before the valley <01516> of the son <01121> of Hinnom <02011>, [and] which <0834> [is] in the valley <06010> of the giants <07497> on the north <06828>, and descended < 03381> to the valley <01516> of Hinnom <02011>, to the side <03802> of Jebusi <02983> on the south <05045>, and descended <03381> to Enrogel <05883>,

20 And Jordan <03383> was the border <01379> of it on the east <06924> side <06285>. This <02063> [was] the inheritance <05159> of the children <01121> of Benjamin < 01144>, by the coasts <01367> thereof round <05439> about, according to their families <04940>.

This <02063> [is] the inheritance <05159> of the tribe < 04294> of the children <01121> of Simeon <08095> according to their families <04940>.

9 Out of the portion <02256> of the children <01121> of Judah <03063> [was] the inheritance <05159> of the children <01121> of Simeon <08095>: for the part <02506> of the children <01121> of Judah <03063> was too much < 07227> for them: therefore the children <01121> of Simeon < 08095> had their inheritance <05159> within <08432> the inheritance <05159> of them.

10. And the third <07992> lot <01486> came < 05927> up for the children <01121> of Zebulun <02074> according to their families <04940>: and the border <01366> of their inheritance <05159> was unto Sarid <08301>:

11 And their border <01366> went <05927> up toward the sea <03220>, and Maralah <04831>, and reached <06293> to Dabbasheth <01708>, and reached <06293> to the river < 05158> that [is] before Jokneam <03362>;

12 And turned <07725> from Sarid <08301> eastward <06924> toward the sunrising unto the border <01366> of Chislothtabor <03696>, and then goeth <03318> out to Daberath <01705>, and goeth <03318> up to Japhia <03309>,

33 And their coast <01366> was from Heleph <02501>, from Allon <0438> to Zaanannim, and Adami <0129>, Nekeb < 05346>, and Jabneel <02995>, unto Lakum <03946>; and the outgoings <08444> thereof were at Jordan <03383>:

34 And [then] the coast <01366> turneth <07725> westward <03220> to Aznothtabor <0243>, and goeth <03318> out from thence <08033> to Hukkok <02712>, and reacheth < 06293> to Zebulun <02074> on the south <05045> side, and reacheth <06293> to Asher <0836> on the west <03220> side, and to Judah <03063> upon Jordan <03383> toward the sunrising.

47 And the coast <01366> of the children <01121> of Dan <01835> went <03318> out [too little] for them: therefore the children <01121> of Dan <01835> went <05927> up to fight <03898> against <05973> Leshem <03959>, and took <03920> it, and smote <05221> it with the edge <06310> of the sword <02719>, and possessed <03423> it, and dwelt < 03427> therein, and called <07121> Leshem <03959>, Dan < 01835>, after the name <08034> of Dan <01835> their father <01>.

49. When they had made an end <03615> of dividing the land <0776> for inheritance <05157> by their coasts <01367>, the children <01121> of Israel <03478> gave <05414> an inheritance <05159> to Joshua <03091> the son <01121> of Nun <05126> among <08432> them:

50 According <05921> to the word <06310> of the LORD <03068> they gave <05414> him the city <05892> which <0834> he asked <07592>, [even] Timnathserah < 08556> in mount <02022> Ephraim <0669>: and he built < 01129> the city <05892>, and dwelt <03427> therein.

51 These <0428> [are] the inheritances <05159>, which <0834> Eleazar <0499> the priest <03548>, and Joshua <03091> the son <01121> of Nun <05126>, and the heads <07218> of the fathers <01> of the tribes <04294> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, divided for an inheritance <05157> by lot <01486> in Shiloh <07887> before <06440> the LORD <03068>, at the door <06607> of the tabernacle <0168> of the congregation <04150>. Joshua 20

1. The LORD <03068> also spake <01696> unto Joshua <03091>, saying <0559>,

2 Speak <01696> to the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, saying <0559>, Appoint <05414> out for you cities <05892> of refuge <04733>, whereof <0834> I spake <01696> unto you by the hand <03027> of Moses <04872>:

3 That the slayer <07523> that killeth <05221> [any] person <05315> unawares <07684> [and] unwittingly may flee <05127> thither <08033>: and they shall be your refuge <04733> from the avenger <01350> of blood <01818>.

4 And when he that doth flee <05127> unto one <0259> of those <0428> cities <05892> shall stand <05975> at the entering <06607> of the gate <08179> of the city < 05892>, and shall declare <01696> his cause <01697> in the ears <0241> of the elders <02205> of that city <05892>, they shall take <0622> him into the city <05892> unto them, and give <05414> him a place <04725>, that he may dwell < 03427> among <05973> them.

5 And if <03588> the avenger <01350> of blood < 01818> pursue <07291> after <0310> him, then they shall not deliver <05462> the slayer <07523> up into his hand < 03027>; because <03588> he smote <05221> his neighbour < 07453> unwittingly, and hated <08130> him not beforetime.

6 And he shall dwell <03427> in that city <05892>, until <05704> he stand <05975> before <06440> the congregation <05712> for judgment <04941>, [and] until < 05704> the death <04194> of the high <01419> priest < 03548> that shall be in those days <03117>: then <0227> shall the slayer <07523> return <07725>, and come <0935> unto his own city <05892>, and unto his own house <01004>, unto the city <05892> from whence he fled <05127>.

7. And they appointed <06942> Kedesh <06943> in Galilee <01551> in mount <02022> Naphtali <05321>, and Shechem <07927> in mount <02022> Ephraim <0669>, and Kirjatharba <07153>, which <01958> [is] Hebron <02275>, in the mountain <02022> of Judah <03063>.

8 And on the other <05676> side <05676> Jordan < 03383> by Jericho <03405> eastward <04217>, they assigned <05414> Bezer <01221> in the wilderness <04057> upon the plain <04334> out of the tribe <04294> of Reuben <07205>, and Ramoth <07216> in Gilead <01568> out of the tribe < 04294> of Gad <01410>, and Golan <01474> in Bashan < 01316> out of the tribe <04294> of Manasseh <04519>.

9 These <0428> were the cities <05892> appointed <04152> for all <03605> the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, and for the stranger <01616> that sojourneth < 01481> among <08432> them, that whosoever <03605> killeth <05221> [any] person <05315> at unawares <07684> might flee <05127> thither <08033>, and not die <04191> by the hand <03027> of the avenger <01350> of blood <01818>, until <05704> he stood <05975> before <06440> the congregation <05712>.

Joshua 21

1. 3 And the children <01121> of Israel <03478> gave <05414> unto the Levites <03881> out of their inheritance < 05159>, at <0413> the commandment <06310> of the LORD < 03068>, these <0428> cities <05892> and their suburbs < 04054>.

4 And the lot <01486> came <03318> out for the families <04940> of the Kohathites <06956>: and the children <01121> of Aaron <0175> the priest <03548>, [which were] of the Levites <03881>, had <01961> by lot <01486> out of the tribe <04294> of Judah <03063>, and out of the tribe <04294> of Simeon <08099>, and out of the tribe <04294> of Benjamin <01144>, thirteen cities <05892>.

5 And the rest <03498> of the children <01121> of Kohath <06955> [had] by lot <01486> out of the families < 04940> of the tribe <04294> of Ephraim <0669>, and out of the tribe <04294> of Dan <01835>, and out of the half < 02677> tribe <04294> of Manasseh <04519>, ten <06235> cities <05892>.

6 And the children <01121> of Gershon <01647> [had] by lot <01486> out of the families <04940> of the tribe < 04294> of Issachar <03485>, and out of the tribe <04294> of Asher <0836>, and out of the tribe <04294> of Naphtali < 05321>, and out of the half <02677> tribe <04294> of Manasseh <04519> in Bashan <01316>, thirteen cities < 05892>.

7 The children <01121> of Merari <04847> by their families <04940> [had] out of the tribe <04294> of Reuben < 07205>, and out of the tribe <04294> of Gad <01410>, and out of the tribe <04294> of Zebulun <02074>, twelve cities < 05892>.

8 And the children <01121> of Israel <03478> gave <05414> by lot <01486> unto the Levites <03881> these <0428> cities <05892> with their suburbs <04054>, as the LORD <03068> commanded <06680> by the hand <03027> of Moses <04872>.

9. And they gave <05414> out of the tribe <04294> of the children <01121> of Judah <03063>, and out of the tribe <04294> of the children <01121> of Simeon <08095>, these <0428> cities <05892> which <0834> are [here] mentioned <07121> by name <08034>,

10 Which the children <01121> of Aaron <0175>, [being] of the families <04940> of the Kohathites <06956>, [who were] of the children <01121> of Levi <03878>, had < 01961>: for theirs <01992> was the first <07223> lot < 01486>.

11 And they gave <05414> them the city <07151> of Arba <0704> the father <01> of Anak <06061>, which < 01958> [city is] Hebron <02275>, in the hill <02022> [country] of Judah <03063>, with the suburbs <04054> thereof round <05439> about it.

12 But the fields <07704> of the city <05892>, and the villages <02691> thereof, gave <05414> they to Caleb < 03612> the son <01121> of Jephunneh <03312> for his possession <0272>.

21 For they gave <05414> them Shechem <07927> with her suburbs <04054> in mount <02022> Ephraim <0669>, [to be] a city <05892> of refuge <04733> for the slayer < 07523>; and Gezer <01507> with her suburbs <04054>,

27 And unto the children <01121> of Gershon <01647>, of the families <04940> of the Levites <03881>, out of the [other] half <02677> tribe <04294> of Manasseh <04519> [they gave] Golan <01474> in Bashan <01316> with her suburbs <04054>, [to be] a city <05892> of refuge <04733> for the slayer <07523>; and Beeshterah <01203> with her suburbs <04054>; two <08147> cities <05892>.

40 So all <03605> the cities <05892> for the children <01121> of Merari <04847> by their families < 04940>, which were remaining <03498> of the families <04940> of the Levites <03881>, were [by] their lot <01486> twelve cities <05892>.

41 All <03605> the cities <05892> of the Levites <03881> within <08432> the possession <0272> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478> [were] forty <0705> and eight <08083> cities <05892> with their suburbs < 04054>.

42 These <0428> cities <05892> were every one with their suburbs <04054> round <05439> about them: thus < 03651> [were] all <03605> these <0428> cities <05892>.

43. And the LORD <03068> gave <05414> unto Israel <03478> all <03605> the land <0776> which <0834> he sware <07650> to give <05414> unto their fathers <01>; and they possessed <03423> it, and dwelt <03427> therein.

44 And the LORD <03068> gave them rest <05117> round <05439> about, according to all <03605> that he sware <07650> unto their fathers <01>: and there stood <05975> not a man <0376> of all <03605> their enemies <0341> before <06440> them; the LORD <03068> delivered <05414> all <03605> their enemies <0341> into their hand <03027>.

45 There failed <05307> not ought <01697> of any <03605> good <02896> thing <01697> which <0834> the LORD <03068> had spoken <01696> unto the house < 01004> of Israel <03478>; all <03605> came <0935> to pass <0935>.

Joshua 22

And when they came <0935> unto the borders < 01552> of Jordan <03383>, that [are] in the land <0776> of Canaan <03667>, the children <01121> of Reuben <07205> and the children <01121> of Gad <01410> and the half < 02677> tribe <07626> of Manasseh <04519> built <01129> there <08033> an altar <04196> by Jordan <03383>, a great <01419> altar <04196> to see <04758> to.

11 And the children <01121> of Israel <03478> heard <08085> say <0559>, Behold <02009>, the children < 01121> of Reuben <07205> and the children <01121> of Gad <01410> and the half <02677> tribe <07626> of Manasseh <04519> have built <01129> an altar <04196> over against <04136> the land <0776> of Canaan <03667>, in the borders <01552> of Jordan <03383>, at <0413> the passage <01552> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478>.

12 And when the children <01121> of Israel <03478> heard <08085> [of it], the whole <03605> congregation < 05712> of the children <01121> of Israel <03478> gathered <06950> themselves together at Shiloh <07887>, to go < 05927> up to war <06635> against <05921> them.

13 And the children <01121> of Israel <03478> sent <07971> unto the children <01121> of Reuben <07205>, and to the children <01121> of Gad <01410>, and to the half < 02677> tribe <07626> of Manasseh <04519>, into <0413> the land <0776> of Gilead <01568>, Phinehas <06372> the son <01121> of Eleazar <0499> the priest <03548>,

14 And with him ten <06235> princes <05387>, of each <0259> chief <01> house <01004> a prince < 05387> throughout all <03605> the tribes <04294> of Israel <03478>; and each one <0376> [was] an head <07218> of the house <01004> of their fathers <01> among the thousands <0505> of Israel <03478>.

15 And they came <0935> unto the children <01121> of Reuben <07205>, and to the children <01121> of Gad < 01410>, and to the half <02677> tribe <07626> of Manasseh <04519>, unto the land <0776> of Gilead <01568>, and they spake <01696> with them, saying <0559>,

16 Thus <03541> saith <0559> the whole <03605> congregation <05712> of the LORD <03068>, What <04100> trespass <04604> [is] this <02088> that ye have committed < 04600> against the God <0430> of Israel <03478>, to turn <07725> away this day <03117> from following <0310> the LORD <03068>, in that ye have builded <01129> you an altar < 04196>, that ye might rebel <04775> this day <03117> against the LORD <03068>?

17 [Is] the iniquity <05771> of Peor <06465> too little <04592> for us, from which <0834> we are not cleansed <02891> until <05704> this <02088> day <03117>, although there was a plague <05063> in the congregation <05712> of the LORD <03068>,

18 But that ye must turn <07725> away this day < 03117> from following <0310> the LORD <03068>? and it will be, [seeing] ye rebel <04775> to day <03117> against the LORD <03068>, that to morrow <04279> he will be wroth <07107> with the whole <03605> congregation <05712> of Israel < 03478>.

19 Notwithstanding <0389>, if <0518> the land < 0776> of your possession <0272> [be] unclean <02931>, [then] pass <05674> ye over <05674> unto the land <0776> of the possession <0272> of the LORD <03068>, wherein the LORD'S <03068> tabernacle <04908> dwelleth <07931>, and take <0270> possession <0270> among <08432> us: but rebel <04775> not against the LORD <03068>, nor <0408> rebel <04775> against us, in building <01129> you an altar < 04196> beside <01107> the altar <04196> of the LORD < 03068> our God <0430>.

20 Did not Achan <05912> the son <01121> of Zerah <02226> commit <04603> a trespass <04604> in the accursed <02764> thing, and wrath <07110> fell <01961> on <05921> all <03605> the congregation <05712> of Israel <03478>? and that man <0376> perished <01478> not alone <0259> in his iniquity <05771>.

21. Then the children <01121> of Reuben <07205> and the children <01121> of Gad <01410> and the half <02677> tribe <07626> of Manasseh <04519> answered <06030>, and said <01696> unto the heads <07218> of the thousands < 0505> of Israel <03478>,

22 The LORD <03068> God <0410> of gods <0430>, the LORD <03068> God <0410> of gods <0430>, he knoweth <03045>, and Israel <03478> he shall know <03045>; if <0518> [it be] in rebellion <04779>, or if <0518> in transgression <04604> against the LORD <03068>, (save us not this <02088> day <03117>,)

23 That we have built <01129> us an altar <04196> to turn <07725> from following <0310> the LORD <03068>, or if <0518> to offer <05927> thereon <05921> burnt < 05930> offering or meat offering <04503>, or if <0518> to offer <06213> peace <08002> offerings <02077> thereon <05921>, let the LORD <03068> himself require <01245> [it];

24 And if <0518> we have not [rather] done <06213> it for fear <01674> of [this <02063>] thing <01697>, saying <0559>, In time <04279> to come <04279> your children <01121> might speak <0559> unto our children < 01121>, saying <0559>, What <04100> have ye to do with the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>?

25 For the LORD <03068> hath made <05414> Jordan <03383> a border <01366> between <0996> us and you, ye children <01121> of Reuben <07205> and children <01121> of Gad <01410>; ye have no <0369> part <02506> in the LORD <03068>: so shall your children <01121> make our children <01121> cease <07673> from fearing <03372> the LORD < 03068>.

26 Therefore we said <0559>, Let us now <04994> prepare <06213> to build <01129> us an altar <04196>, not for burnt <05930> offering, nor <03808> for sacrifice < 02077>:

27 But [that] it [may be] a witness <05707> between < 0996> us, and you, and our generations <01755> after <0310> us, that we might do <05647> the service <05656> of the LORD <03068> before <06440> him with our burnt <05930> offerings, and with our sacrifices <02077>, and with our peace < 08002> offerings; that your children <01121> may not say < 0559> to our children <01121> in time <04279> to come < 04279>, Ye have no <0369> part <02506> in the LORD < 03068>.

28 Therefore said <0559> we, that it shall be, when < 03588> they should [so] say <0559> to us or to our generations <01755> in time <04279> to come <04279>, that we may say <0559> [again], Behold <07200> the pattern <08403> of the altar <04196> of the LORD <03068>, which <0834> our fathers <01> made <06213>, not for burnt <05930> offerings, nor <03808> for sacrifices <02077>; but it [is] a witness <05707> between <0996> us and you.

29 God forbid <02486> that we should rebel <04775> against the LORD <03068>, and turn <07725> this day < 03117> from following <0310> the LORD <03068>, to build < 01129> an altar <04196> for burnt <05930> offerings, for meat offerings <04503>, or for sacrifices <02077>, beside < 0905> the altar <04196> of the LORD <03068> our God < 0430> that [is] before <06440> his tabernacle <04908>.

30. And when Phinehas <06372> the priest <03548>, and the princes <05387> of the congregation <05712> and heads <07218> of the thousands <0505> of Israel <03478> which <0834> [were] with him, heard <08085> the words <01697> that the children <01121> of Reuben <07205> and the children <01121> of Gad <01410> and the children <01121> of Manasseh <04519> spake <01696>, it pleased them.

31 And Phinehas <06372> the son <01121> of Eleazar <0499> the priest <03548> said <0559> unto the children <01121> of Reuben <07205>, and to the children <01121> of Gad <01410>, and to the children <01121> of Manasseh < 04519>, This day <03117> we perceive <03045> that the LORD <03068> [is] among <08432> us, because <0834> ye have not committed <04600> this <02088> trespass <04604> against the LORD <03068>: now <0227> ye have delivered < 05337> the children <01121> of Israel <03478> out of the hand <03027> of the LORD <03068>.

32 And Phinehas <06372> the son <01121> of Eleazar <0499> the priest <03548>, and the princes <05387>, returned <07725> from the children <01121> of Reuben < 07205>, and from the children <01121> of Gad <01410>, out of the land <0776> of Gilead <01568>, unto the land < 0776> of Canaan <03667>, to the children <01121> of Israel <03478>, and brought <07725> them word <01697> again < 07725>.

33 And the thing <01697> pleased the children < 01121> of Israel <03478>; and the children <01121> of Israel <03478> blessed <01288> God <0430>, and did not intend <0559> to go <05927> up against <05921> them in battle <06635>, to destroy <07843> the land <0776> wherein <0834> the children <01121> of Reuben <07205> and Gad <01410> dwelt <03427>.

34 And the children <01121> of Reuben <07205> and the children <01121> of Gad <01410> called <07121> the altar <04196> [Ed]: for it [shall be] a witness <05707> between <0996> us that the LORD <03068> [is] God <0430>.

Joshua 23

1. And it came <01961> to pass a long <07227> time <03117> after <0310> that the LORD <03068> had given rest <05117> unto Israel <03478> from all <03605> their enemies <0341> round <05439> about, that Joshua <03091> waxed old <02204> [and] stricken <0935> in age <03117>.

2 And Joshua <03091> called <07121> for all < 03605> Israel <03478>, [and] for their elders <02205>, and for their heads <07218>, and for their judges <08199>, and for their officers <07860>, and said <0559> unto them, I am old <02204> [and] stricken <0935> in age <03117>:

3 And ye have seen <07200> all <03605> that the LORD <03068> your God <0430> hath done <06213> unto all <03605> these <0428> nations <01471> because < 06440> of you; for the LORD <03068> your God <0430> [is] he that hath fought <03898> for you.

4 Behold <07200>, I have divided <05307> unto you by lot these <0428> nations <01471> that remain <07604>, to be an inheritance <05159> for your tribes <07626>, from Jordan <03383>, with all <03605> the nations <01471> that I have cut <03772> off, even unto the great <01419> sea <03220> westward.

5 And the LORD <03068> your God <0430>, he shall expel <01920> them from before <06440> you, and drive < 03423> them from out of your sight <06440>; and ye shall possess <03423> their land <0776>, as the LORD <03068> your God <0430> hath promised <01696> unto you.

6 Be ye therefore very <03966> courageous <02388> to keep <08104> and to do <06213> all <03605> that is written <03789> in the book <05612> of the law <08451> of Moses <04872>, that ye turn <05493> not aside therefrom [to] the right <03225> hand <03225> or [to] the left < 08040>;

7 That ye come <0935> not among these <0428> nations <01471>, these <0428> that remain <07604> among you; neither <03808> make mention <02142> of the name < 08034> of their gods <0430>, nor <03808> cause to swear < 07650> [by them], neither <03808> serve <05647> them, nor <03808> bow <07812> yourselves unto them:

8 But cleave <01692> unto the LORD <03068> your God <0430>, as ye have done <06213> unto this <02088> day <03117>.

9 For the LORD <03068> hath driven <03423> out from before <06440> you great <01419> nations <01471> and strong <06099>: but [as for] you, no <03808> man <0376> hath been able <05975> to stand <05975> before <06440> you unto this <02088> day <03117>.

10 One <0259> man <0376> of you shall chase < 07291> a thousand <0505>: for the LORD <03068> your God < 0430>, he [it is] that fighteth <03898> for you, as he hath promised <01696> you.

11. Take good <03966> heed <08104> therefore unto yourselves <05315>, that ye love <0157> the LORD <03068> your God <0430>.

12 Else <03588> if ye do in any wise go <07725> back <07725>, and cleave <01692> unto the remnant <03499> of these <0428> nations <01471>, [even] these <0428> that remain <07604> among <0854> you, and shall make marriages <02859> with them, and go <0935> in unto them, and they to you:

13 Know <03045> for a certainty that the LORD < 03068> your God <0430> will no <03808> more <03254> drive <03423> out [any of] these <0428> nations <01471> from before <06440> you; but they shall be snares <06341> and traps <04170> unto you, and scourges <07850> in your sides < 06654>, and thorns <06975> in your eyes <05869>, until < 05704> ye perish <06> from off <05921> this <02063> good <02896> land <0127> which <0834> the LORD < 03068> your God <0430> hath given <05414> you.

14 And, behold <02009>, this day <03117> I [am] going <01980> the way <01870> of all <03605> the earth <0776>: and ye know <03045> in all <03605> your hearts <03824> and in all <03605> your souls <05315>, that not one <0259> thing <01697> hath failed <05307> of all < 03605> the good <02896> things <01697> which <0834> the LORD <03068> your God <0430> spake <01696> concerning <05921> you; all <03605> are come <0935> to pass unto you, [and] not one <0259> thing <01697> hath failed <05307> thereof.

15 Therefore it shall come <01961> to pass, [that] as all <03605> good <02896> things <01697> are come <0935> upon you, which <0834> the LORD <03068> your God <0430> promised <01696> you; so <03651> shall the LORD <03068> bring <0935> upon you all <03605> evil <07451> things <01697>, until <05704> he have destroyed <08045> you from off <05921> this <02063> good <02896> land < 0127> which <0834> the LORD <03068> your God <0430> hath given <05414> you.

16 When ye have transgressed <05674> the covenant < 01285> of the LORD <03068> your God <0430>, which < 0834> he commanded <06680> you, and have gone <01980> and served <05647> other <0312> gods <0430>, and bowed < 07812> yourselves to them; then shall the anger <0639> of the LORD <03068> be kindled <02734> against you, and ye shall perish <06> quickly <04120> from off <05921> the good <02896> land <0776> which <0834> he hath given < 05414> unto you.

Joshua 24

1. And Joshua <03091> gathered <0622> all < 03605> the tribes <07626> of Israel <03478> to Shechem < 07927>, and called <07121> for the elders <02205> of Israel <03478>, and for their heads <07218>, and for their judges < 08199>, and for their officers <07860>; and they presented < 03320> themselves before <06440> God <0430>.

2 And Joshua <03091> said <0559> unto all < 03605> the people <05971>, Thus <03541> saith <0559> the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>, Your fathers <01> dwelt <03427> on the other <05676> side < 05676> of the flood <05104> in old <05769> time < 05769>, [even] Terah <08646>, the father <01> of Abraham <085>, and the father <01> of Nachor <05152>: and they served <05647> other <0312> gods <0430>.

3 And I took <03947> your father <01> Abraham < 085> from the other <05676> side <05676> of the flood < 05104>, and led <03212> him throughout all <03605> the land <0776> of Canaan <03667>, and multiplied <07235> his seed <02233>, and gave <05414> him Isaac <03327>.

4 And I gave <05414> unto Isaac <03327> Jacob < 03290> and Esau <06215>: and I gave <05414> unto Esau < 06215> mount <02022> Seir <08165>, to possess <03423> it; but Jacob <03290> and his children <01121> went < 03381> down <03381> into Egypt <04714>.

5 I sent <07971> Moses <04872> also and Aaron < 0175>, and I plagued <05062> Egypt <04714>, according to that which <0834> I did <06213> among <07130> them: and afterward <0310> I brought <03318> you out.

6 And I brought <03318> your fathers <01> out of Egypt <04714>: and ye came <0935> unto the sea <03220>; and the Egyptians <04714> pursued <07291> after <0310> your fathers <01> with chariots <07393> and horsemen < 06571> unto the Red <05488> sea <03220>.

7 And when they cried <06817> unto the LORD <03068>, he put <07760> darkness <03990> between <0996> you and the Egyptians <04713>, and brought <0935> the sea <03220> upon them, and covered <03680> them; and your eyes <05869> have seen <07200> what I have done <06213> in Egypt < 04714>: and ye dwelt <03427> in the wilderness <04057> a long <07227> season <03117>.

8 And I brought <0935> you into the land <0776> of the Amorites <0567>, which dwelt <03427> on the other < 05676> side <05676> Jordan <03383>; and they fought < 03898> with you: and I gave <05414> them into your hand < 03027>, that ye might possess <03423> their land <0776>; and I destroyed <08045> them from before <06440> you.

9 Then Balak <01111> the son <01121> of Zippor < 06834>, king <04428> of Moab <04124>, arose <06965> and warred <03898> against Israel <03478>, and sent < 07971> and called <07121> Balaam <01109> the son < 01121> of Beor <01160> to curse <07043> you:

10 But I would <014> not hearken <08085> unto Balaam <01109>; therefore he blessed <01288> you still: so I delivered <05337> you out of his hand <03027>.

11 And ye went <05674> over <05674> Jordan < 03383>, and came <0935> unto Jericho <03405>: and the men <01167> of Jericho <03405> fought <03898> against you, the Amorites <0567>, and the Perizzites <06522>, and the Canaanites <03669>, and the Hittites <02850>, and the Girgashites <01622>, the Hivites <02340>, and the Jebusites <02983>; and I delivered <05414> them into your hand < 03027>.

12 And I sent <07971> the hornet <06880> before < 06440> you, which drave <01644> them out from before <06440> you, [even] the two <08147> kings <04428> of the Amorites < 0567>; [but] not with thy sword <02719>, nor <03808> with thy bow <07198>.

13 And I have given <05414> you a land <0776> for which <0834> ye did not labour <03021>, and cities < 05892> which <0834> ye built <01129> not, and ye dwell < 03427> in them; of the vineyards <03754> and oliveyards < 02132> which <0834> ye planted <05193> not do ye eat < 0398>.

14 Now <06258> therefore fear <03372> the LORD < 03068>, and serve <05647> him in sincerity <08549> and in truth <0571>: and put <05493> away <05493> the gods < 0430> which <0834> your fathers <01> served <05647> on the other <05676> side <05676> of the flood <05104>, and in Egypt <04714>; and serve <05647> ye the LORD < 03068>.

15. And if <0518> it seem evil <07489> unto you to serve <05647> the LORD <03068>, choose <0977> you this day <03117> whom <04310> ye will serve <05647>; whether <0518> the gods <0430> which <0834> your fathers < 01> served <05647> that [were] on the other <05676> side <05676> of the flood <05104>, or the gods <0430> of the Amorites <0567>, in whose <0834> land <0776> ye dwell <03427>: but as for me and my house <01004>, we will serve < 05647> the LORD <03068>.

16 And the people <05971> answered <06030> and said <0559>, God forbid <02486> that we should forsake <05800> the LORD <03068>, to serve <05647> other <0312> gods <0430>;

17 For the LORD <03068> our God <0430>, he [it is] that brought <05927> us up and our fathers <01> out of the land <0776> of Egypt <04714>, from the house <01004> of bondage <05650>, and which <0834> did <06213> those < 0428> great <01419> signs <0226> in our sight <05869>, and preserved <08104> us in all <03605> the way <01870> wherein <0834> we went <01980>, and among all <03605> the people <05971> through <07130> whom <0834> we passed <05674>:

18 And the LORD <03068> drave <01644> out from before <06440> us all <03605> the people <05971>, even the Amorites <0567> which dwelt <03427> in the land < 0776>: [therefore] will we also <01571> serve <05647> the LORD <03068>; for he [is] our God <0430>.

19 And Joshua <03091> said <0559> unto the people <05971>, Ye cannot serve <05647> the LORD <03068>: for he [is] an holy <06918> God <0430>; he [is] a jealous < 07072> God <0410>; he will not forgive <05375> your transgressions <06588> nor your sins <02403>.

20 If <03588> ye forsake <05800> the LORD < 03068>, and serve <05647> strange <05236> gods <0430>, then he will turn <07725> and do you hurt <07489>, and consume <03615> you, after <0310> that he hath done you good <03190>.

21 And the people <05971> said <0559> unto Joshua <03091>, Nay <03808>; but we will serve <05647> the LORD <03068>.

22 And Joshua <03091> said <0559> unto the people <05971>, Ye [are] witnesses <05707> against yourselves that ye have chosen <0977> you the LORD <03068>, to serve <05647> him. And they said <0559>, [We are] witnesses <05707>.

23 Now <06258> therefore put <05493> away < 05493>, [said he], the strange <05236> gods <0430> which <0834> [are] among <07130> you, and incline <05186> your heart <03824> unto the LORD <03068> God <0430> of Israel <03478>.

24 And the people <05971> said <0559> unto Joshua <03091>, The LORD <03068> our God <0430> will we serve <05647>, and his voice <06963> will we obey <08085>.

25 So Joshua <03091> made <03772> a covenant < 01285> with the people <05971> that day <03117>, and set <07760> them a statute <02706> and an ordinance <04941> in Shechem <07927>.

26 And Joshua <03091> wrote <03789> these < 0428> words <01697> in the book <05612> of the law < 08451> of God <0430>, and took <03947> a great <01419> stone <068>, and set <06965> it up there <08033> under <08478> an oak <0427>, that [was] by the sanctuary < 04720> of the LORD <03068>.

27 And Joshua <03091> said <0559> unto all < 03605> the people <05971>, Behold <02009>, this < 02063> stone <068> shall be a witness <05713> unto us; for it hath heard <08085> all <03605> the words <0561> of the LORD <03068> which <0834> he spake <01696> unto us: it shall be therefore a witness <05713> unto you, lest <06435> ye deny <03584> your God <0430>.

28 So Joshua <03091> let the people <05971> depart <07971>, every man <0376> unto his inheritance <05159>.

29. And it came <01961> to pass after <0310> these <0428> things <01697>, that Joshua <03091> the son < 01121> of Nun <05126>, the servant <05650> of the LORD < 03068>, died <04191>, [being] an hundred <03967> and ten <06235> years <08141> old <01121>.

30 And they buried <06912> him in the border <01366> of his inheritance <05159> in Timnathserah <08556>, which < 0834> [is] in mount <02022> Ephraim <0669>, on the north <06828> side of the hill <02022> of Gaash <01608>.

31 And Israel <03478> served <05647> the LORD < 03068> all <03605> the days <03117> of Joshua <03091>, and all <03605> the days <03117> of the elders <02205> that overlived Joshua <03091>, and which <0834> had known < 03045> all <03605> the works <04639> of the LORD < 03068>, that he had done <06213> for Israel <03478>.

32 And the bones <06106> of Joseph <03130>, which <0834> the children <01121> of Israel <03478> brought <05927> up out of Egypt <04714>, buried <06912> they in Shechem <07927>, in a parcel <02513> of ground <07704> which <0834> Jacob <03290> bought <07069> of the sons <01121> of Hamor <02544> the father <01> of Shechem < 07927> for an hundred <03967> pieces of silver <07192>: and it became <01961> the inheritance <05159> of the children < 01121> of Joseph <03130>.

33 And Eleazar <0499> the son <01121> of Aaron < 0175> died <04191>; and they buried <06912> him in a hill <01389> [that pertained to] Phinehas <06372> his son < 01121>, which <0834> was given <05414> him in mount < 02022> Ephraim <0669>.
